Last Saturday, a joint photo taken prior to our match with St Austell. Football Remembers Week is a joint collaboration between The FA, the Premier League, the Football League and the British Council, the aim is to engage football fans and players at every level about what took place on Christmas Day one hundred years ago on the battlefields in Belgium.
On 25 December 1914, soldiers from both sides put down their weapons and crossed into ‘no man's land‘ to share in an impromptu ceasefire. First-hand accounts from the time include references to football being played and photographs taken. To this end photos are being taken across games played in this week in December 2014.

6-Dec-14 Verwood Vase Hopes Shattered on the Slopes at St AustellHomepage Headline - "Verwood Vase Hopes Shattered on the Slopes at St Austell"
Decisive finishing provides St Austell with comfortable passage to the next round. Following an early Verwood disallowed effort for offside, St Austell put Verwood to the sword converting nearly all of their chances to take a 4-0 lead with only a quarter of the game gone. The game levels out a little and Verwood take the initiative at the start of the second half only to see St Austell hit another with superbly worked combination and finish. A Russell Dyer well placed shot gives the traveling supporters at least something to cheer before an own goal ends a miserable afternoon on the field. St Austell with a now 17 game winning streak will provide tough test for anyone in the next round. We wish them well and thank them for their hospitality on the day.

18-Jun-14 "Poore Looks Forward to Tough Tests"

On the back of two pre-season matches this past week against Shaftesbury and Hamworthy Recreation, Verwood Town manager Carl Poore is relishing two tough test against his former clubs.

Poore Looks Forward to Tough Tests Wimborne Town visit Potterne Park on Saturday (19 July) before Poole Town make the short trip from Tatnum on Tuesday 22 July.

These are going to be terrific matches as the Potters prepare for the new campaign and also gives the Verwood public the chance to see some first class action as Poore explained to www.vtfc.co.uk, " For me of course these games are vital as we look to step up a gear, but for the people of Verwood and surrounding area, the chance to see the two top non-league clubs in the region in action."

"I’m looking forward to seeing some good crowds here for the two games, and for people who haven’t been along before, I think they will be pleased when they see the standard of football on display and also the facilities. A number of the committee have given up a lot of their own time to work hard at the ground and I can’t praise them enough for that."

Verwood started their pre-season programme with a work out at Shaftesbury and Poore was pleased with the positives that came out of the 3-1 defeat, "Results are not important at this stage, it’s what you get out of the games. We used 22 lads and they all got 45 minutes each. We played well at times and controlled large periods of the match. At Hamworthy Rec. on Wednesday it was another chance to give players game time and this time we won 2-1, but again performance more than the result important . I will be giving them more minutes against Wimborne and Poole."

"Both games will be really tough tests for us and we just have to perform and learn from the experience. I would say that this is the best pre-season we could have wished for both preparation wise and also for the people of Verwood."

The Wimborne match kicks off at 3.00 pm and the Poole Town match at 7.45 pm. Admission is just £4 adults £2 concessions and Under 16’s are free when accompanied by an adult (there is no limit of Under 16’s entering with a paying adult).

Hot and cold food and drink is available at the ground. Our range of new merchandise, badges, key rings and kit car stickers are on sale at both games.

25-Jun-14 Carl Poore - Getting Ready for the ChallengeHomepage Headline - "Carl Poore - Getting Ready for the Challenge"
Although a hugely disappointing outcome for our national team, the World Cup has had football followers transfixed. For some though, their minds have not been totally on the global competition as Verwood manager Carl Poore has had his mind firmly on the Sydenham's Wessex League season ahead. Poore oversaw the last few games of the previous campaign, but knows that now the real job begins. Carl told www.vtfc.co.uk, "The World Cup has been a distraction for many people, but as a manager it is the busiest time of the year. It's time to get new players in and to talk to old players to be able to keep the core of the squad intact. So yes, it is the busiest time of the year, but also the most stressful time.

"I have spoken to the players and I'm looking forward to seeing them at pre-season. They have all said that they want to stay, but I know the game well enough to understand that things can change and my job is to keep hold of them."

Carl stressed the importance of creating a solid spine to the side as the Potters look to get back on form after a disappointing second half to the 2013-14 campaign, "It's a good squad, but we do need some experienced heads. There were games that we watched last season where it just needed an old head in the middle of the park to calm things down, one in the heart of defence and a striker. It is a very young team and that did show.

"They are a creative bunch of lads, but they only had Jack Lovell as a recognised striker. So we need to be able to bring in someone to give us more options because goals was a massive thing last season. The other major factor was conceding so many sloppy goals, so we have quickly identified where we need to strengthen."

With Poore's appointment, Verwood Town has someone who is highly renowned in the Wessex League and with that has come some good contacts, which he intends to put to good use, "I have spoken to Tommy Killick at Poole. Poole don't have a reserve team and he will want his players to have competitive football, so that is one avenue that it open to us. We will have a look when we play Poole on 22 July. Tommy has said they are going to bring their strongest team, so as well as being a good test for our lads, we can have a look at their lads."

Verwood kick off their home pre-season schedule on 19 July when Wimborne Town visit before Poole Town travel to Potterne Park on 22 July. Pre-season training commences at Potterne Park on 1 July at 7pm and new players are welcome.

12-May-14 Carl Keen on Cup Success "Carl Keen on Cup Success"

Verwood Town manager Carl Poore has his sights set on cup success for the Potters after seeing fellow Wessex League side Sholing enjoy Vase glory at Wembley.

As he prepares for his first full season in charge of the Potterne Park outfit, he fully understands just how important cup competitions are to all clubs at this level.

Carl Keen on Cup Success Verwood will take part in the FA Cup, the FA Vase, the Dorset Senior Cup and the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup and Poore is no stranger to having a good cup run himself during his time at both Wimborne and Poole.

The Boatmen's success has again raised the profile of the Sydenhams Wessex League, a league that Carl believes is one of the best at this level in the country, "I think the Wessex League is one of the best around and that has been proved again with Sholing winning the Vase. As a player, I had very successful runs in both the FA Cup and FA Vase and when you have a run like that, it brings a huge aura to the club. As players you feel really wanted and with the coverage you get, it's great for the club.

You can't take away the fact that cup competitions can bring good rewards to any club and Poore knows that good cup runs can have a huge impact on the entire season, "It's not just the players who get something out of a cup run, it's the club and the town as a whole. You have to look at the financial side of it as well and there is good money involved, so you have to look at that aspect of it. The prize money in the two FA competitions now can make a big difference to the season as a whole. You just have to look at non-league clubs who have done well and it covers their expenses for a season."

The Potters boss has seen cup success at first hand and is urging his charges to take the opportunities that will present themselves in the 2014-15 campaign, "We have to go out to do well in the cup competitions. I got to the semi-final as a Wessex League player and a Wessex League side have just won it and that proves that we all have a chance. It is all about how you perform on the day and it's about taking in pride in the club and to get the club in to the next round. We know that the further we can go, the more interest the club can attract from local people who may come here for the first time and then see just what a good set up we have here."
