11-Mar-12 Headline Image"Roy of the Social" - A Games Night Report from Neville Munson"

Having experienced doing the double over Ringwood Town earlier in the day, we were to witness a further double late into the evening!
23 participants entered our Annual Games night where Adi defended his Darts title, Steve Jefferis the Table Tennis and Neville the Pool. None of the three retained their title. A mixture of players and Committee members along with their partners did battle with a huge amount of banter mainly going in the direction to the players from the hardened experienced old heads of the Committee!

Boyd's Social Club till was kept ticking over, enabling us to wash down some excellent Lasagne and Garlic Bread and we are indebted to Jennie Munson and Steve Jefferis for taking the time out to prepare the food. It has to be noticed that not much of the salad was eaten.
So, well fed and watered the battles commenced and many memorable matches took place. The Table Tennis, probably because it's a more strenuous activity was dominated by the Players, with the final being between our two centre backs, Ben Kelly and Matt Delaney. The eventual winner was Ben in a close run game. The presentation to the winner was undertaken by Steve whose efforts to defend his title was mediocre as he was knocked out quite early in the tournament! If there was a prize for the individual who put the most effort into his game that would go to Chairman Mike, who despite giving his opponent over 40 years advantage battled until the end.

The Pool saw some interesting chess like strategy in some of the matches and many of the Players were falling to the wisdom of the "Old boys" and there were some superb matches at quarter and semi-final stages, but eventually the remaining two were Roy Mortimer and Paul Delaney. Roy came out on top and having beaten him with a superb performance in the semi, was presented with his winnings by Neville.

The Darts was dominated by the old boys; obviously these youngsters don't indulge in the good old fashioned pub games. The final was under pressure as last orders had been called at the Bar and not content with having won the Pool, Roy then went onto win the darts tournament. Playing the final against reigning champion Adi, he came out on top and secured his second title of the evening. Adi, humble in defeat sort of presented Roy with his winnings!

A most enjoyable evening and thanks go to everyone who helped, especially Laura who kept score and kept the tournaments ticking over. The main purpose of the evening though was to make some much needed funds for the Club and we're delighted with the £106 profit made.

A big thank you to everyone who attended. Next event, the Golf Day!!!

29-Dec-11 Headline ImageHomepage Headline - "New Tricks" Vets victorious 1-0 against the Reserves in our annual Festive Friendly
An absorbing Festive Friendly with the Verwood Veterans snatching the glory with a late winner over Verwood Town Reserves. It is the first time in a long while (and possibly ever) that the Veterans have taken anything out of this fixture (apart from much drinking afterwards). Festivities and hight spirits continued for them afterwards at the Sports and Social Club whilst the Reserves Management were left to stare blankly at the bottom of an empty glass. We do understand however that the Chairman has issued a statement of full confidence from the board :-) - For photos from the match see Photos (30-Dec)
