Match Report Shaftesbury vs Verwood Town 11-Jul-23
TUESDAY 11TH JULY 2023
SHAFTESBURY 4 VERWOOD TOWN 0
We needed a testing start to the season and this suited the purpose.
We took time to settle giving Shaftesbury a couple of chances on goal in the first quarter.
We gave away space and Shaftesbury pressed hard giving our back four a chance to shine.
Broad and McHale shackled their opposite numbers forcing play through the middle.
We contained the central switch but a slight lapse on concentration half way through the half allowed Shaftesbury to score with a good break and a low shot into the bottom corner.
McWilliams and Carswell worked hard in midfield and close on half time released Farndell after a quick exchange but the finish went high and wide.
A few changes at half time helped to tighten our grip but not enough to stop Shaftesbury grabbing another with a low volley from just inside the box.
We had a couple of openings that should have resulted in score board adjustments but on the night couldn’t produce a suitable finish with Shaftesbury a fancied
Wessex premier outfit for the new season taking the game 4-0 at the finish.
The game did what was intended in rubbing off rustiness and giving some new blood a chance to bed in.
