Match Report Fawley AFC vs Verwood Town 27-Apr-13

SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 27TH APRIL 2013
FAWLEY AFC 2 VERWOOD TOWN 2

The bus was late so a few of us walked to the pitch. A bright day and ideal for football.

Fawley's raid down the right was blocked by Kelly. A line ball found Hill and a deep cross was inches wide of being touched home by Satterley.

3 minutes we won a free kick just outside the area. Webb dropped the ball on the penalty spot for Kelly to steam in and try his luck. The keeper made a good catch and a throw found us thin at the back. Evans raced across to force a cross. Oldring headed clear.

It was a good end to end opening but then the quality of football dropped off. Passes went astray and the ball spent more time in the air than on the deck.

Halfway through the half Satts sparked hope with a good run finishing with a shot the keeper had to parry. Saxby raced in to finish the job but a sliding full back blocked the shot and the ball bounced to safety.

Lynch had been unemployed for a chunk of the half but then had to prove his worth with a fine save from a terrific angled shot from the edge of the box.

Webb and Dyer had a spasmodic impact as the ball sailed over them more often than on the deck.

31 minutes saw Gajic go clear down the right. A cross found Satterley. A shot on the run forced a good save from the keeper, pushing the ball out for a corner. An inswinger was headed out. Kelly connected but the ball sailed over the bar.

Oldring intercepted a through ball and slipped the ball to Saxby. A deft touch freed up Satterley. The shot though was a 'Grubber' with little power. The keeper had no problem and gathered cleanly. His punt upfield had us on the back foot and it took a Lynch sprint to clear the danger.

We had a few minutes on top with shots from Gajic and Satterley deserving better than a bar and post connection.

44 minutes and Fawley hit back with some good approach work. Oldring, wrong footed for a change decided to test the strength of his immaculately manicured nails in holding his opposite numbers shirt. A yellow card and free kick was his reward.

Lynch was untroubled and held the effort as the whistle blew for half time.

Half Time 0-0

The half time chat's had impact, we looked sharper and Fawley more determined.

Webb raised hopes after 6 minutes with a cracking volley but the keeper made brilliant save.

Evans Webb and Satterley combined well to force their way through a tight defence. Satts shot was deflected for a corner. A good ball in but Gajic put the ball over the bar.

Hill had been quite but suddenly sparkled with a cracking run down the left. Spotting Satts free, a good ball gave space for a shot. Again the keeper did well to palm away, in came Webb to fire inches wide.

A minute later, Evans worked the flank crossing for Saxby to try his luck. The keeper caught a rising shot and wasted no time in putting his drop kick in our half. We were thin on the ground. A rising shot brought a great save from Lynch palming the ball wide. Evans hoofed it upfield but Fawley had it back in our area as they got on top winning second balls.

Lynch punched a cross away but couldn't do anything about a 15 yarder than sped past him into the bottom corner. 0-1.

Hill fired a shot over the bar and then Webb drilled a shot into the side netting.

Gaic came off for Murray to have a run with 64 minutes gone.

Oldring headed over the bar from a corner and then Elysee hammered a free kick just wide as we tried to claw back the deficit.

74 minutes and Elysee made way for Kimber.

75 minutes a quick Fawley break down the right split us open and a low cross was toed in altering the score board to 0-2.

Fawley almost had a third with a break through the middle and a shot that tested Lynch to the limit.

10 minutes left and Satterley cut in from the right. A rising shot this time beat a good keeper dragging us back into the game 1-2.

4 minutes left, Saxby and Satterley worked hard in Fawley's third. Satts laid the ball left and Dyer was on hand to volley the ball past the keeper to draw scores level.

Full Time 2-2
