Match Report Team Solent vs Verwood Town 3-Mar-2012

SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 3RD MARCH 2012
TEAM SOLENT 2 VERWOOD TOWN 2

1 min 47 seconds and Smith fired us ahead with a brilliant 25 yarder always beating the keeper as it bent into the top corner. 1-0.

Liddell found Haskell and laying off to Gaqjic opened up a still settling Team Solent defence. Gajic took up the running and laying the ball back to Smith gave a golden opportunity for a clean strike. The result was the opening goal..

TS shaken a bit gathered themselves together and played good football with a possession style play. Our midfield battled it out but it was Solent managing the switch to flank play that created more space than us for attempts on goal in these early exchanges.

Satterley broke away on the right with 10 minutes gone but the cross was fired wide by an inrushing Dyer.

Good approach work by Solent split us on the right and it was left to Lynch to prevent a fierce rising shot hitting the back of the net.

22 minutes gone though we were playing around in the box and got severely punished by a lively Solent. 1-1.

We enjoyed a good 5 minutes of possession and Haskell blazed a volley just wide of the post this followed by a Satterley crackerjack that zipped over the bar.

Homer raced back to cover and made a crucial tackle on the edge of the box stopping entry into the area.

35 minutes and we cracked a resilient defensive wall. Haskell chested down a Delaney chip. Satterley followed up and taking the ball wide slipped a through ball for Dyer to cut inside his marker. Just before a shot could be made a sliding tackle took out Dyer but the ball was won and danger cleared.

2 minutes later a similar move finished with a shot from Dyer being stopped on the line.

39 minutes Delaney freed up Elysee. A deep cross brought in Gajic, back to Smith and a right foot blaster slammed into defenders and cleared.

An immediate reaction from TS brought out a save by Lynch and the half closed on a 1-1 score line.

Half Time 1-1

Both teams got stuck in from the re start and play for the first 15 minutes was more confined to the middle of the park with the odd break off the flanks.

Team Solent went close with a low shot from the edge of the box that went inches wide and then we retaliated at the other end with a rising Gajic effort that cleared the cross bar.

55 minutes Delaney collected a clearance from Kelly and chipped over the midfield for Haskell to chest down for Satterley to try a shot. The ball flew past the keeper 2-1.

2 minutes later we should have had a third as Gajic cut in from the right and a left foot high cross gave Haskell a clear header. Unfortunately there wasn’t enough power in the effort and the keeper made a comfortable save.

5 minutes later A well worked move on TS right opened us up and a cross flew across the area to Elysee. An attempted clearance to Gajic was intercepted and a terrific placed cross was headed past Lynch 2-2.

Neither side tried to close ranks, both wanting to win.

Webb came on for Liddell and was soon in the thick of things. Losing the ball to a strong tackle Webb worked back to recover the ball on the edge of our box. A good wide ball to Gajic was sent on to Satterley. A run down the right, a deep cross and Dyer tried a shot that hit the side netting.

It was a good open game with chances at both ends.

75 minutes Gajic crossed from the right. Webb dummied and the ball ran to Satterly. A Satterley toe poke was cleared off the line.

83 minutes Kelly won a header and on to Delaney. A chip found Gajic running free. Webb took the pass in his stride and a well placed shot was cleared for a corner. The corner was headed clear and a runner went free on their right. Just on the edge of the area, Satterley had caught up and a sliding tackle stopped the cross.

TS made us work hard and with 87 minutes on the clock won a free kick. A chip ball landed in the area and a ping pong few seconds had the ball bouncing between players. It was Kelly’s size 14’s that eventually did the trick.

The game ran a few minutes over in which both ends of the pitch saw some action. The whistle went though on a 2-2 score line.
