Match Report Verwood Town vs New Milton Town 30-Nov-19

SYDENHAMS (WESSEX) LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 30TH NOVEMBER 2019
VERWOOD TOWN 1 NEW MILTON TOWN 3

First few minutes we broke through on the flanks to deliver crosses into the New Milton box. Accuracy was missing. All finished up in the hands of the keeper.

New Milton countered down their left but Nicolson’s pace took out the danger.

The game see sawed but on 13 minutes we should have gone ahead when Vint went wide left and chipped a ball for Davies. The keeper was out quickly to take off toes.

Two minutes later it was Dale Hind’s turn to show safe hands taking a high ball in the area.

On 19 minutes New Milton’s luck spilled over when shot just inside the box was partly topped resulting in the ball rolling in off the post 0-1.

3 minutes later Davies went through on goal but great defending from New Milton full back took the ball clean off toes to take it out of the area and safety.

Butler tried a volley with 29 gone but only to see the ball whistle over the bar.

15 minutes left and Physio’s were occupied looking after a Dan Hunt bad fall. Substitution was required so Jack Driscoll went one for one.

Several incidents followed. Pepe Smith shot over the bar, a Davies cross into the six yard box wasn’t followed in and Vint hit the side netting.

2 minutes left we got caught out. Pressure on New Milton defence resulted in a long clearance. A runner, a chip over the advancing Hind, 0-2.

Half Time 0-2.

A passive start to the half and 8 minutes in we allowed a mid field attack to go unchecked. An angled shot made it 0-3.

We lacked purpose allowing New Milton dominance on the ball. Lee Vint had the ball in the net from a rare attack that got through but the ref ruled offside.

On 24 Smith gave way for Lambert. A shuffle of the pack and Lambert took Gajic’s role allowing Gajic to move up into the middle. On 30, Butler came off for Micky Cowland.

38 a persistent Lee Vint made it 1-3. 4 minutes later Vint put the ball in the net again but a hotly disputed off side decision kept the score board unchanged.

Driscoll went close with a minute left and then Vint had a header cleared off the line.

To top off a disappointing day a Lambert FK was flicked on for goal by Mick Cowland. It beat the keeper but took the varnish off the post to go wide.

That was it…

Result 1-3.
