Match Report Verwood Town vs Swanage Town & Herston 19-Nov-19

DORSET SENIOR CUP
TUESDAY 19TH NOVEMBER 2019
VERWOOD TOWN 5 SWANAGE TOWN & HERSTON 1

Following two aborted efforts to complete this fixture at Swanage we managed to get the game on at Potterne. We struggled to get some of the squad to the game but salvation was at hand when Fawcett stepped up to the plate declaring himself fit for at least five minutes.

Butler was awarded a penalty after outpacing the full back and then dropped in the six yard box. Up stepped Vint but the keeper made a terrific save leaving the scoreboard unchanged. The keeper had collided with the post and had to come off for Hospital treatment.

Swanage attacks were mainly central and both Gajic and Kelly were busy keeping a reign on an eager forward line.

Danvers and Nicolson held full back spots and provided good attacking options. It was Nicolson in the 17th minutes who rounded the full back and put a peach of a pass on Fawcett’s right peg. The keeper did well to make a diving save palming the ball round the post.

We continued to press. Swanage relied more and more on counters. One did leave us stranded but Haigh proved equal to the task of racing out to body blocks the shot.

A Fawvett deft touch with 6 minutes left of the half sent Hunt free and an angle shot beat the keeper to put us ahead 1-0.

A minute left of the half and it was the scintillating Fawcett delivering another through ball this time for Vint to send us in at half time with a good lead. 2-0

Half Time 2-0

The lesson learned against USP paid off. We maintained an attacking style and a Driscoll Butler move resulted in a big boot off the line from Butlers shot. The counter was stopped in its tracks by Vint who made a crucial tackle on the edge of the box.

9 minutes and Driscoll’s run into the area finished with a low shot. The keeper scrambled the ball and Butler’s predatory instincts made it 3-0.

Vints game came to an end 0n 54 minutes and Dyer went one for one.

Swanage tired. We benefitted and with space now available. pushed on. Davies hit a cross shot inching past the post and Butler hit a packed defence on the line.

Butler came off for Brigden on 68 minutes and Brigden’s first touch after his long lay off was a cross into the area only for the keeper to make a good catch.

89 minutes we hit number 4 when Davies left the full back for dead and fired a low shot into the bottom corner.

45+2 Hunt went free to slip the ball past the keeper 5-1. 45+ 5 Swanage pulled one back from a corner. The result leaves us with a home draw against Bridport on Tuesday night 03 12 19.

Result 5-1.
