Match Report Verwood Town vs Pewsey Vale 19-Oct-19

SYDENHAMS (WESSEX) LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 19TH OCTOBER 2019
VERWOOD TOWN 1 PEWSEY VALE 2

11 of the Terracotta soldiers would have given Pewsey a better game than we did. Crab football -- playing across the pitch instead of down it – and terrible passing got what we deserved – nothing.

Pewsey arrived with one point on the season and left with four.

Pewsey made the running. 2 minutes and they had attacked down their right and dropped a good cross on the spot. Haigh went high to gather.

We then had a flurry of activity. Nicolson shot wide on 6 minutes. Smith headed over on 7 and Vint went close with a volley.

We trundled upfield. A quick counter from a Davies lob in their box resulted in a player being dropped on the edge of our area. The free kick flew past Haigh. 0-1.

Pepe Smith seemed as if he would break the stranglehold on score line. A 15 minute corner was headed wide and then 2 minutes later a low shot was scrambled clear by the keeper.

Gray had a dipping shot held under the bar and a minute later Dyer hit a volley from 25 yards that produced another diving save from the keeper.

We then emulated midnight in Madame Tussauds. A lifeless period followed sending us in at half time in a somnambulistic state and with Pewsey on a high.

Half Time 0-1.

Cowland came on at half time for Nathan Gray. A good run down the left put Cowland within shooting distance. The keeper saved on the line. 2 minutes gone. A fight back ???

Pewsey's area was like the Alamo for 10 minutes but a packed box and a good keeper kept the score at 0-1, until Moses intervened and created a gap down their right wider than his parting of the Red Sea. A low ball into the box was side footed past Haigh 0-2.

We went from bad to worse. It was Christmas come early for Pewsey. Unbelievable poor passing and aimless meandering when attempting to go forward made it a sorry spectacle for our supporters.

Pewsey had the desire on the day and it paid off.

We grabbed one back with 6 minutes left when we were awarded a corner. Charlie Gajic rose high above defenders to plant a header into the roof of the net. 1-2.

We probably sparked Pewsey's season. Good luck to them..

Result 1-2.
