Match Report Ringwood Town vs Verwood Town 31-Aug-19

BUILDBASE FA VASE 1ST QUALIFYING ROUND REPLAY
TUESDAY 3RD SEPTEMBER 2019
VERWOOD TOWN 2 RINGWOOD TOWN 0

Ringwood pushed forward from the whistle and throughout the half maintained pressure. On balance the first 45 minutes was theirs. Defences snuffed out any attacking flair but with Ringwood looking the more dangerous of the teams on the counters.

Tilsted and Danvers had their work cut out keeping the flanks from access to the box and Gajic did exceptionally well winning heading duels.

Vint followed up a Heggan through ball but was blocked outside the box. Stuttard picked up the rebound and fed Dyer wide left. A deep cross was diverted for a corner.

Ringwood won the header and sparked a counter. Tilsted marshaled the runner and robbed the ball near the flag. Back up the line and Davies slipped his marker but found access to the area blocked by another defender shuttling across.

Ringwood had a couple of good chances with some direct football but Haigh took one effort under the bar and Gajic made a great block on the edge of the area before a shot could get away.

Heggan‘s inventive play opened up Ringwood’s defence with 28 gone but Vint’s run was stopped in full flight by sliding tackle. The ball went loose. Heggan picked it up but followed the same fate as Vint being dropped from behind.. Calls for a free kick went unheeded.

The high pace continued to the end of the half. No goals recorded.

Half Time 0-0.

It took a short time to settle down before we claimed more of the ball. Stuttard worked hard in the middle but suffered a couple of biting tackles. On 67 minutes he came off injured, to give Tyler Rutten a run.

Dyer collected a line ball and cutting inside slammed a low angled cross into the box. The ball took paint off the post.

We were enjoying possession but faced a fierce battle from the visitors. Davies was floored and then Heggan bit dust. The odd handbag flurry followed but on 79 minutes Tilsted made his way into the Ringwood box and smashed a rising shot past the keeper 1-0.

Ringwood went for broke. Chances opened up and with 5 minutes left Rutten crossed low into the 6 yard box. Vint slid the ball past the keeper for our second of the game. 2-0.

Rutten had to come off with a couple minutes left sporting a hamstring pull. Luckily we had Jaydon Taylor ready to go one for one.

The finish was end to end. Haigh pulled off a couple of saves and Hall who had maintained a holding spot delivered a great shot but that finished over the bar instead of under it.

Result 2-0

We play Premiership Division Club Cowes Sports away in the next round on the 14th September 2019.
