Match Report Blackfield and Langley vs Verwood Town 14-Oct-14

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
TUESDAY 14TH OCTOBER 2014
BLACKFIELD & LANGLEY 5 VERWOOD TOWN 0

A few changes had to be made prior to the game with 4 working away and Tyler Rutten being advised in the morning that his suspension for a sending off would take immediate effect.

B&L were out of the traps very quickly and within the first minute fired a cross into the area. Collins made a good catch and his throw put us on the attack. Fisk made ground down the right and was unlucky to see his punt into the box headed clear before we got bodies on the end of it.

B&L tempo was high and good passing and movement forced us back into our third. Collins made a couple of comfortable saves but it was Buck cutting out an attack that gave us an opportunity of counter attacking.

Whelan took up the running and was dropped unceremoniously 25 yards out. Taking the free kick himself fired low and hard for the bottom corner. The keeper scooped it out and Foster nipped in to put it into the net. Congratulations were short lived as the linesman held up a flag for offside. It was a harsh judgement.

Gajic then became saviour, body blocking a shot from 10 yards, and then Collins had to stretch to divert the ball round the post following a volley from the edge of the area.

22 minutes gone and we got caught pushing too far up. A squared ball from the bye line was followed in and the ball squeezed past Collins to make it 1-0.

31 minutes Gajic forced his way past a midfield tackle and chipped the ball on to Buck. Buck's pass to Fisk was spot on. A cross shot from Fisk was palmed out by the keeper. Golby was agonisingly inches away from putting the ball in the net.

10 minutes left and Dent suffered a head clash when going up for a high ball. It was a lengthy recovery. Dent wanted to continue but it was obvious he was uncomfortable. He was determined to stay on until the whistle.

B&L broke through the middle and Dent got a toe to a through ball sending it wide to Murray. A crossfield ball intended for Cousins was intercepted and a pass to the edge of the box gave oceans of space for a runner to race in and blast the ball into the roof of the net. 0-2.

A late rally involving Whelan and Golby finished with the keeper going low to gather a shot at the foot of the post.

Half Time 0-2.

Jordan Dent's head clash meant withdrawal from the second half. Kris Anderton made a bow alongside Chas Gajic.

We tried to draw first blood of the half with Fisk going wide right and whipping a low ball across the area. We had no one on the end of it.

B&L's pressure increased and on 52 minutes we slipped in the middle of the park allowing a runner to go free. Collins almost got a hand to the shot but accuracy put the home side 3 up.

B&L's energy was a telling factor in their ability to apply enough pressure to pin us back into our third. Buck stopped one raid on their left and then Murray hoofed a cross out of the box as we tried to block access to Collins.

Golby and Groves picked up one clearance and a good interpassing move with Cousins adding quality took us to the edge of the area. A Groves half volley was blocked and then Golby worked the ball wide for Fisk to race in. A shot would have been better than a cut back as B&L got bodies into the box.

Whelan had a shot then a high clearance caught us again. A high ball over the backs let in players and Buck did extremely well to divert the ball for a corner.

Up went Anderton and the clearance found Fisk. A run down the right a deep cross and Foster blazed in to hammer the ball into the side netting.

B&L were edging play keeping us pegged back.

66 minutes and Murray came off to give O'Connell a run. There was no respite and O'Connell's baptism was a race for a ball threatening to breach our backs. Using Collins to relieve the attack O'Connell moved wide to send the return ball on to Golby. Wide to Foster and a dipping shot was well watched by the keeper as it skimmed over the bar.

We looked as if we were tiring a bit as we entered the last 15 minutes.

Collins dived low to his right to deflect the ball wide of the post and then punched clear an inswinging corner.

Anderton headed clear an aerial attack and then Buck made a brilliant sliding tackle on the edge of the box to stop a point blank shot.

78 minutes and we muffed two tackles in the middle of the park leaving a free run for a one on one. 0-4.

88 minutes and we couldn't stop number 5 from skipping past Collins.

Result 0-5.
