Match Report Verwood Town vs Folland Sports 23-Aug-14

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 23RD AUGUST 2014
VERWOOD TOWN 1 FOLLAND SPORTS 2

A different line up for this game was needed as we had to face holiday commitments and work schedules. None the less it was a good squad so hopes were high of a reverse of last Saturdays result.

Anderton had to make a last ditch tackle with only 30 seconds gone as Follands made the running.

FGollands remained on the front fot as we were forced back and Lynch was the savior with a good catch as a high ball whipped across the area.

Molyneaux's head came in handy clearing a ciple of high balls into the box and then as play switched it was both Buck and Evans over employed as we had to cope with good attacking moves.

10 minutes and we recovered some composure. Buck made ground down the left and a good pass found Turner. Turner's effort from the edge of the box was tipped over the bar. In came the corner and Molyneaux won the header but put it over the bar.

Elysee had to track back to cover a break and then Cousins did well to block a shot from 20 yards.

Gajic was gradually winning the middle of the park battle and worked hard to open up space in the middle giving Dan Munday a glance of goal. A rising shot was well taken by the keeper.

Back came Follands and this time it was Lynch covering the ball well taking a high catch.

A switch in play saw more of the ball in the air so Molyneaux and Amderton had to suffer headaches as they got under a barrage of high balls into our third.

Munday broke free with 20 minutes gone but could only hit a grubber that bobbled into the keeper's hands.

33 minutes a cross from the left was headed for foal and Lynch was grateful to see it drift wide of the upright.

10 minutes left it was our turn and Elysee's run opened up space on the right. A cross found Turner but again we couldn't convert the opportunity.

Fisk had a couple of shots towards the whistle but we were woeful yet again in front of goal.

Half Time 0-0.

We started the second half enjoying more of the ball and with 9 minutes on the clock a Buck run and cross gave Fisk an opportunity to put us ahead. The malaise continued as Fisk's effort drifted over the top.

Passing accurately was a thing of the past and we gave away more of the ball than we should have.

12 minutes a Buck Turner move split open Follands giving Munday a glimpse of goal. This time he got it right. 1-0.

Elysee gave way for Foster to give fresh legs.

Follands were back on the attack mainly because of our poor retention of the ball. Lynch made a good save low left from one shot but then was lucky enough to have a ball fired down his throat as a player went free.

We looked ragged. Passing hadn't improved so with 74 minutes gone it was of no surprise to see a ball nestle in the back of our net bringing Follands level.

Fisk gave way for Rutten. The dug out was frustrated by an apparent lackadaisical attitude creeping in and a death wish when it came to working for the ball.

Again we gave away the ball in mid field and Follands went free on the left. Evans luckily had it covered and took the brunt of the shot on his chest. Pushing forward, Evans took control and cut through a gap in the middle. Munday's intelligent run gave space but yet again the finishing touch wasn't apparent and another chance went begging.

Follands, heartened by our ineptitude pushed on and Lynch had to make a couple of saves from shots within our area.

41 minutes of the half and we cracked at the back. A run down the right and a cross fell to the feet of a player who was completely alone. He must have thought the game had finished with no one around. Anyway a quick right foot volley and the net said 1-2.

We had a late flurry in front of Follands sticks but their defence was solid enough to block what shots we made on target (not many). The trees at the back of goal had a few broken twigs as the whistle went without any further goals.

Result 1-2.
