Match Report Blackfield and Langley vs Verwood Town 14-Sep-13

WESSEX LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 14TH SEPTEMBER 2013
BLACKFIELD AND LANGLEY 2 VERWOOD TOWN 1

This was double test for us. Chris Lynch out for a good 8/10 weeks with knee damage, and our fixture, playing against a very enthused B&L.

We started well and in the first minute Luke Homer floated a ball into B&L's box for Saxby to lash at goal. The ball was deflected by an arm. Shouts for an early penalty went unheeded and a corner given. A great catch by the keeper under pressure and a launched ball had us back pedalling.

Sims showed great footwork shuffling his size 12's backwards to make a good catch. Murray received the throw and made ground. Homer went wide then checked back to bring Gajic into play. Over to Evans on to Webb and a deep cross was half scrambled away. Gajic swept in to welly the ball over the bar.

We'd had a good start but B&L were getting their game together and a good move down the right finished with a shot from the edge of the box being safely gathered low by Sims.

Homer's contribution in the middle of the park was noticeable as we put together some useful attacks. Finishing was a problem.

25 minutes gone and Webb forced his way through two tackles in the last third. A 20 yarder was well caught under the bar.

27 minutes we had maintained pressure but almost got caught pushing too far forward. A snap raid through the middle almost caught us napping but a timely intervention by Kelly took away the danger. A pass found Dyer and Dyer's chip over the centre half gave space for Dan Munday to cut round the back and lob the advancing keeper to put us ahead. 1-0.

Celebrations were short lived. 2 minutes later a quick break and a clinical finish put the scores level. 1-1.

B&L had a head of steam up and some good possession football followed using two very dangerous forwards.

Oldring, having a great game stopped a central raid and then headed a cross out of the area.

The pressure point was down our left side and a cross and shot with 10 minutes left brought out a fine save from Sims.

We almost went 2 up with 4 minutes left but the move between Evans and Gajic finished with the ball shaving the foot of the post.

Half Time 1-1.

49 minutes gone and we strung together a move through Gajic Evans finishing with Saxby crossing into the box. Homer got there first but his header went just wide of the post.

Homer and Dyer worked the ball across midfield but B&L's defence had tightened and a brick wall stopped progress.

We had backed off a bit and the room given to B&L allowed crisp passing to go unchecked. A ball whipped in from their right was well taken by Sims and then another shot was saved on the line.

We looked a bit ragged for a while but despite this almost had a second when Dan Munday wrestled his way through a tackle on the corner of the area finishing with a lob over the advancing keeper. The ball dropped over the bar.

Homer's reading of the game helped no end as he intercepted a couple of cross field balls and intelligent use gave us opportunity to counter attack.

Gajic had a shot blocked on the edge of the box and then Saxby hit the side netting.

Back came B&L with a run down their left and cutting inside hit a tremendous shot that thankfully whipped just over the bar.

61 minutes excellent movement on and off the ball from the home side resulted in a cut back from the bye line being hammered past Sims. 1-2.

Oldring's response was to join in attack a minute later. Saxby went clear and his cross found our skipper in the box. A glancing header deserved a goal but went wide.

68 minutes Murray came off for Darren Munday. A quick shuffle of the pack as Homer went full back and Darren joined brother Dan up front.

Gajic almost stole the show with 72 minutes gone as he collected a half clearance and a left foot volley had goal written all over it. The keeper though read it well and parried the ball. Dyer cut in and tried a shot. Bodies in numbers stopped the effort. Darren Munday caught the rebound and a right foot shot was held by a very much in form keeper.

80 minutes and Gajic came off for Joe Kimber.

Evans and Saxby worked the ball out of our third and a crossfield ball found Kimber. An inch perfect pass found Dan Munday but the shot was blocked.

4 minutes left and the last real attack fell to B&L with Sims excelling to keep the score line at 1-2

Result 1-2
