Match Report Verwood Town vs Moneyfields 20-Apr-13

SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 20TH APRIL 2013
VERWOOD TOWN 0 MONEYFIELDS 2

Tuesday night Downton, Thursday night AFC Portchester, Saturday afternoon Moneyfields all top teams. No wonder there were signs of tired legs.

Nigel Reeves turned up dispelling the rumour he couldn't appear in sunlight.

Several changes were again necessary to the team format and we supplemented the bench with two up and coming youth players in Matt Gilham and Joe Kimber.

5 minutes and Elysee defied critics of his ageing style whipping down the right and delivering a cross of power that went over the keeper and just inches high for the incoming Jack Lovell.

The ball was cleared down Moneyfields right. Hill cut out the danger with a good interception and fired up Satterley with a ball just landing behind the Moneyfields back four. Satts went free but his shot went straight to the keeper.

Moneyfield's running off the ball was first class. Good first touch and accurate passing made us work hard. Webb and Dyer were already in battle stemming the flow.

10 minutes gone though we buckled and good progressive football finished with an angled shot clipping the inside of the post and resulting in Moneyfields reflecting a 0-1 score line.

A minute later a hard low cross was deflected goalwards inching past the post. We closed ranks and managed to keep play outside the area.

Half way through the half we gradually worked our way into the game. Gajic was inspirational in working the flank with Saxby. Taking a return ball Gajic tried a right footer but the shot was palmed clear by a very good keeper.

A free kick taken by Webb was an inch too high for Lovell to connect. Gajic then tried a header, Webb hit a volley and Lovell headed over the bar. Moneyfield's keeper could have gone home, our finishing was dreadful.

Evans cleared a cross with a strong header finding Elysee. Satts collected from Elysee and made ground. The keeper was off his line. Satts tried a chip but the ball skimmed the bar.

In the closing minutes Moneyfields powered back into the game and it was down to Lynch to keeper the score at 0-1 with a terrific save on 44 minutes.

Half Time 0-1

47 minutes and Lynch brilliantly caught a header after a lightening raid down the left.

We responded well and 54 minutes should have leveled the score when Webb and Hill combined to free Lovell. Lovell's chase for the ball was frustrated by the keeper spotting danger and racing off his line to go to ground.

Gajic came off to let Haskell have a run. Haskell's impact was immediate when he won a high ball, giving Satts space for a shot. Again the keeper didn't have to move.

Moneyfields energy was a feature as they continued to find space. Webb and Dyer had to work extremely hard to keep their threat under wrap.

Saxby was finding a bit more room and a sparkling bit of footwork let him drive a volley goalwards. The keeper gathered the effort without having to move.

Dyer moved left, took a ball from Lovell and made ground to the dead ball line. A low hard cross begged for a touch but to no avail. The ball travelled across the box and out into touch.

Moneyfields worked across the mid field and finished with a ball wide left. A deep cross was palmed away by Lynch. In came a runner and a 20 yarder needed another Lynch punch.

Evans broke up a raid in the middle and making ground slipped the ball wide for Elysee to overlap. A low cross was flicked on by Haskell but the ball hit the side netting.

78 minutes and we gave away a free kick just outside the area. The ball was head height. One header was palmed out by Lynch and then Kelly headed the other off the line. The ball was hit back into the box low and hard. A runner connected but luckily the ball went wide.

We rallied. Haskell, Dyer and Webb worked the ball wide right. Saxby joined in and fired a cross for Lovell. The keeper flapped a hand and the ball dropped just outside the area. In came Satterley but yet again fired wide.

83 minutes and this time Satterley was on target. A cracking shot flew for the top corner but the keeper launched himself across the goal to palm away.

92 minutes we got caught pushing up and suffered an opportunistic goal.

Result 0-2.
