Match Report Verwood Town vs New Milton Town 2-Feb-13

SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 2ND FEBRUARY 2013
VERWOOD TOWN 3 NEW MILTON TOWN 1

22 Seconds gone and Saxby was seen racing down the line. Bowel problem ? Our die hard supporters looked for a reason.

What a pleasant surprise to see that Saxby not only had got out of the blocks with the ball at his feet but was in fine health.

The cross was met by a Satterley misguided boot giving New Milton's Keeper nothing to do but watch the ball sail over the bar.

2 minutes old and we won a free kick. Probably one of the only 'wins' we have had recently. The ball landed in a crowded box. Half clearances, half shots and total mayhem. Jack Lovell stubbed a toe but luckily against the ball. 1-0.

We pressed forward sensing we could grab another. It rebounded on us when a snap break caught us too far up field and with only five minutes gone had the score board showing 1-1.

8 minutes and NM maintained their attacks flinging the ball across the area. A diving header was brilliantly saved by Lynch.

We had a bite about us and reacted instantly to New Milton's pressure. We made ground down the right and a high ball into the box was followed in by Lovell. Out came the keeper and a size ten hoofed the ball clear of the area.

Saxby, having one of his better games, slipped the ball past his marker and from 25 yards sent in a dipping shot. The keeper palmed the ball into the air and before Long could get under it a pair of very safe hands plucked the ball to safety.

NM hit back. Excellent football took play to just outside our area and a volley, on target, was again watched and well taken by Lynch.

Ryan Long's hooked shot was palmed out and then Satterley's drive was tipped over the bar. The corner dipped in but Webb's half volley went just wide of the upright.

Webb again brought off a fine save by the keeper. The drop kick cleared our back four and a shot on the run was tipped over the bar by Lynch. The corner swerved in and out of the area.

With a couple of minutes left it was the industrious Webb tracking back who stopped a shot on goal so saving Lynch from another acrobatic leap.

Half Time 1-1 Saxby left this run a bit late. 30 seconds on the clock before he took off. It was like watching the Road Runner. Skipping past the full back Saxby hit a low cross for Ryan Long. A left foot shot was on target but a great pair of hands took a clean catch.

Satts hit a shot closely followed by a Webb 'dipper'. The keeper remained untroubled.

NM worked the ball through the middle resulting in a shot from the edge of the box. Kelly's control was first class taking the sting out and slipping the ball to Evans cleared the danger.

Dyer's strong tackle earned NM a free kick but Gajic read the play and got under the ball to clear it from our third.

Good football took NM to the edge of the box. A sweeping pass left found space and a great cross was intercepted by Jake Long. Good feet took the ball out of danger and an inch perfect pass released Saxby. In to Satts across to Ryan Long and a shot was clawed away.

20 minutes to go…still 1-1. End to end stuff without a break through. We won a free kick.

Gajic elected himself as the specialist and dropped the ball on to the penalty spot. A melee and the ball skidded off a defenders head past the keeper. 2-1.

76 minutes and Satts broke through. One of the best clipped ankle fouls for a long time was evidenced. Satts hit the floor instead of the ball.

2 minutes later it was the Satts show as he ran free and unleashed a rising shot that the keeper did brilliantly to palm away.

NM should have leveled scores but Jake Long did well to cut out the cross.

5 minutes left and another raid on our box had Lynch punching out and then it was Kelly getting his head under the ball to clear. v A minute later Dyer and Webb combined to release Satts. 18 yards out and a shot on target was palmed out. In went Lovell 3-1.

3 minutes to go and O'Moore came on for Satts. It was almost the perfect debut as O'Moore latched on to a Webb through ball but only to lose it to a very good keeper.

Result 3-1
