Match Report Moneyfields vs Verwood Town 1-Dec-12

SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
SATURDAY 1ST DECEMBER 2012
MONEYFIELDS 2 VERWOOD TOWN 0

Matt Delaney, Chas Elysee and Brad Hill all missed this fixture but we had a good squad and looked forward to a game against one of the potential promotion contenders this season.

Moneyfields were first to try a shot. Luckily, conservatories at the back of our goal had reinforced glass roofs and took the brunt of the effort.

A good move down Moneyfields right opened up an opportunity for a shot but it was topped and Lynch gathered easily. A minute later a high cross was nodded on and Lynch again had an easy task.

We took time bedding in but half way through the half found our feet and Webb Satterley and Haskell worked the ball through the middle rounding off the move with Haskell playing in Saxby for a shot. The shot was blocked by a full back racing across. The re bound was fired back in but again a long leg deflected the ball away from danger.

Murray chipped a ball on to the penalty spot for Haskell to head just over the bar.

30 minutes and Satterley intercepted a clearance. A wide ball to Saxby, inside to Haskell and back to Saxby opened up Moneyfields for a cross shot. A packed defence cleared high and long. A runner tried a volley from the edge of our area but Dyer had sensed the danger and cut across to block the effort.

Lynch then made a good diving save to his right as Moneyfields piled on pressure. Evans cut out one raid and then Smith dived low to head clear from the penalty spot.

We hit back through Webb. Fighting his way through a couple of tackles Webb found Satterley wide right. A quick cross was powered in by Gajic but a good keeper made a great save,

It was end to end play with both sides having chances. Good goalkeeping was a feature.

Gajic and Satterley opened up Moneyfields defence and a cracking ball from Satterley landed ideally for Haskell to try his luck. Haskell shaped up but a slippy pitch took its toll and Haskell missed the opportunity.

A minute to go and Moneyfelds worked the left flank to give space for a cross. A header in the six yard box was well taken by an alert Lynch.

Half Time 0-0.

48 minutes and Satts tried a cross shot. A clearance landed for Gajic to win the tackle and spark off Saxby for a run on goal. Saxby should have tried a shot but unselfishly slipped the ball sideways for Haskell. Haskell's shot hit a defender and a long clearance had us back pedaling. Ben Kelly won a tussle for the ball and brought Murray into play. Murray's pass inside gave Gajic an opening. Saxby received a great pass but his shot went wide.

Moneyfields took a free kick from just outside the box. Evans stretched a leg to clear but the ball hit a Moneyfields player and shaved the post. A near call.

58 minutes and Moneyfields were pressing hard. Excellent approach work opened us up in front of goal but Lynch brought off a tremendous save shoving the ball wide as the shot powered in. An angled shot followed but Lynch again athletically gathered at the foot of the post.

60 minutes and a header went over our bar. A minute later another break opened us up and a rising shot was palmed away by Lynch. A cross from the left was headed over the bar.

Kelly then headed clear before Evans raced across to block a clear shot on goal. Pressure eased half way through the half. With the last flurry of activity from Moneyfields being an overhead kick that flew straight into Lynch's gloves.

We got back into the mix and Satterley was frustrated to see a good shot clip the post after Haskell had created the opening.

74 minutes and we suffered for pushing up. A quick break and a shot from just inside the corner of the box left Lynch grounded. 0-1.

Satts had a shot deflected by the keeper's legs. Haskell watched a great effort deflected for a corner. Saxby had a shot palmed away and then again the goal keeper's legs save another Saxby effort.

Gajic had a shot that sailed over the bar and Martin Smith tried a long range shot that the keeper watched go wide.

Lynch took a back pass from Evans and a long kick found Haskell. A header down and Satts ran free. A good rising shot was flicked over the bar. In came the corner and a powerful defensive header cleared danger. We had pushed up too far and in the 92nd minute we gave ground for a Moneyfields second.

Full Time 0-2.
