Match Report Ringwood Town vs Verwood Town 8-Mar-2011

SYDENHAMS (WESSSEX) LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
TUESDAY 8TH MARCH 2011
RINGWOOD TOWN 2 VERWOOD TOWN 1

No fog, a ref that could see the dug out from the half way line, so.... Game on.

Both sides were committed to picking up the three points so we had a lively start.

A quick ball down Ringwood's right flank was cut out by Dear. Dear to Webb back to Edwards on to Webb a cross field ball to Saxby and before the flowing move could be halted Saxby 'bit the dust'. A scything no nonsense tackle laid him flat. The free kick was floated into the box and a very determined defence cleared the danger.

Saxby picked up a pass from Delaney, and working the ball forward found Edwards. Edwards moved the ball on to Webb and we made ground to the edge of the box. A wall of red shirts was the equivalent to a No Entry sign. A shot hit the wall and deflected for a corner.

Up came Lynch and Delaney, a scramble in the box followed with Webb & Delaney getting in half shots but the barrier remained blocking the line. A half clearance fell just outside the area to Saxby and a rasping shot hit the angle of the crossbar and post then bouncing clear.

12 minutes an Edwards' free kick found Haskell and a header landed on the roof of the net.

4 minutes later Ringwood created a good move on their right and cutting into the box a shot was well covered by Tong.

The game was end to end with no prisoners taken.

34 minutes saw a corner headed downwards by Haskell and a clearance off the line by the keeper kept it at 0-0.

45 minutes Webb connected with a half clearance and the ball flew into the top corner. HT....1-0.

Only 20 seconds had elapsed when Ringwood had the ball at our bye line and a cross into the box was almost turned in. Fortunately Lynch cut out the danger with a diving header.

Tong made a good high catch as Ringwood maintained pressure.

Another break on the right had Matt Dear chasing back and extra cover by Delaney snuffed out the attack. A clearance aimed for Aspin was intercepted and Ringwood pushed forward again.

Dyer, beavering away in the centre of the park won back the ball from another scramble and cutting through a couple of tackles on the edge of the box tried a shot. The ball cannoned off a defender and the keeper safely gathered.

We then gave away a free kick 30 yards out. The ball floated on to the penalty spot and a half volley was stopped by Lynch. A no nonsense clearance fell to Ringwood and another attack was mounted as they went for the equaliser.

Gajic came on for Aspin but the urgency in the Ringwood side meant more activity for Tong and the back four.

We eased off and suffered for it. Messing about in the middle of the park a half hit pass gave the ball away. A chip to the edge of the box and another chip over Lynch gave space for a lone runner and the ball finished up in the bottom corner with Tong stranded. 1-1.

Saxby then had a chance but the keeper made a heroic dive and turned the ball away from danger.

Webb and Edwards broke through and Dyer, in support connected with a volley than shaded the bar.

All the signs were there for a draw with a flurry of yellow cards indicating the eagerness the players had for a win.

92 minutes gone and the ball was punted into out box. Tong raced in to gather but with players already surrounding the ball the clash gave the linesman a reason for indicating a penalty. 1-2 !!! Yak.
