Report

Tensions were high in this must win game for either side. Ferndown had to win and then hope that next week one of the other two teams in the relegation dog fight lose. By us winning we can only now be relegated if the two other teams win next week, with one of them having to win by a 12 goal margin! So I regard us as safe and went out accordingly to celebrate, as you do.

To our credit we started very well and were winning most of the challenges and also looked dangerous when going forward. After about 15 minutes Luke had a shot from just outside the box which their keeper spilled and Tristan under pressure put the rebound over the bar. However it wasn't long before we scored. A decent move down the right saw the ball coming to Russ Dyer who shot into the bottom corner of the net. Five minutes later we were two up with Russ scoring direct from a corner. Still we pressed forward and were dominating play, ensuring that Ferndowns dangerous forwards were getting little quality service and just before half time Russ completed his hat trick when he collected a clearance twenty five yards out and with their defence pushing out he dribble his way clean through and shot under the advancing keeper.

At half time we spoke about Ferndown coming at us in the second half as they would have nothing to lose and after 10 minutes which we had performed the better of the two teams they scored when for the only time in the game their centre forward got the better of Lynchy, shot which Colin could only parry and the supporting striker slipped the rebound home. Things could have got nervy for us at that stage, but to our credit we dictated the play for the remainder of the game. Tristan hit the post, Luke should have scored with a free header from a superb cross by Carl Smalley and we kept pressing forward keeping good possession and restricting Ferndowns ability to attack us.

All in all a well deserved victory!
