DORSET PREMIER LEAGUE
TUESDAY 13TH OCTOBER 2026
VERWOOD TOWN 0 BOURNEMOUTH SPORTS 3
A disastrous start. Long ball down Sports left, a low cross into the box and a deflection in our defence wrong footing Wallis to put the visitors ahead. 0-1. Only 1 minute and 53 seconds gone !!!
We re grouped quickly and for the next ten minutes had Sports defending deep. Sports defence had no niceties and any threat on goal was dealt with in a no nonsense fashion.
Counter breaks were frequent but our back four and good handling by Wallis kept the score board locked.
14 A corner dropped on the edge of the box. Although Kerr’s volley was on target, he was denied increasing his seasons tally with the effort cleared off the goal line.
We continued to have an edge on possession but suffered our malaise of not being able to convert chances.
21 and typical of the night's events saw a 30 yarder from Pope tipped over the bar by a flying keeper.
Half time 0-1
The second half kicked off with both teams keeping an open game and Sports showing a defiant resilience in keeping the score line in their favour.
Challenges became frequent free kicks. Joyce needed treatment after a couple of clashes and had to be subbed. Baldry came on to replace him. 12 minutes gone.
Two minutes later Sports countered, an attack and a line ball down their right earned a corner. Heavy challenges in the box caused the ref to point to the spot. Wallis pulled of a great diving save palming the ball away from the foot of the post
18 gone and a bad tackle on McKinlay forced a substitution. Rahman came on to take up a wide right position. A couple of other shuffles took place as the game picked up pace.
20 gone and a penalty claim upheld. Pope’s shot hit the foot of the post and rebounded to safety for the visitors.
29 Bartlett took over from Kwaminda as we continued to have a slight edge in possession. Chances came to level the score line.
35 minutes after camping in Sports third a long clearance caused havoc in our area. A bobble between players and the ball whipped past Wallis, 0-2. Sports had achieved what we had endeavoured to do … and failed to do .. score.
Sports continued to defend well and depend on a rugged display supported by a good keeper.
48 gone and a Kerr delivery was taken under the bar. A big boot high upfield landed in our box. A tackle on a runner….penalty. 0-3. 20 seconds later the whistle blew on a three pointer for Sports. Although performing well we didn’t have a clinical finish to alter the final result.
Result 0-3
