DORSET PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 2026
MERE TOWN 3 VERWOOD TOWN 0

Déjà vu. 1 minute 30 seconds on the clock. A corner for Mere. The ball sailing gently into the top corner of the net. 0-1 !!!!

Joyce saved more blushes 2 minutes later by racing across to rob Mere’s CF from closing on goal. We looked ragged.

It was back’s to the wall as Mere pressed forward. Pope Joyce and Best managed to head clear several balls from inside the box. Gradually Mayo and Colalleri got dragged back to bolster defence leaving any counter attacking opportunities like Gold Dust.

Most of the half already belonged to the home team and on 33 minutes they doubled the score line with a simple goal from an unchallenged forward. 0-2.

34 we saw Bartlett on for Blakewell.

38 we briefly rallied and Danvers finished off a good bit of football with a shot tipped over the bar. The corner went unchallenged leaving Mere an easy clearance that almost finished up in the net as they surged forward chasing the clearance. An offside flag saved the score line from changing.

The half finished with a defence shell shocked but holding on to only a 2 goal deficit.

Half Time 0-2

A shot of Adrenalin must have been in our half time drink. We kicked off attacking the Mere back four and Joyce sparked a run for Danvers to volley on goal. The Keeper denied celebrations with a save by feet giving away a corner. An inswinger drifted over the box then to be hammered upfield, it sparked another run on goal. Fortunately, a flag stopped the attack for offside.

The game evened out but suffered a spate of petty fouls. Kerr was floored a couple of times and Danvers suffered a similar fate closing in on goal.

18 Knott came on for Howe
29 Blakewell and Leatherbarrow came on for Best and Kwawinda
The game then meandered with Mere the better finishers scoring on 49 minutes.

The whistle blew on 50 minutes.

A goal in the first minute and a goal in the last minute. !!!!!!

Result 0-3
