DORSET PREMIER LEAGUE CUP
TUESDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER 2026
VERWOOD TOWN 1 DORCHESTER SPORTS 5

We had a better start than in our last couple of games but with Ridout between the sticks busier of the two keepers. Dorchester Sports direct long ball game kept our back four on their toes and giving Ridout early handling practice.

Colarelli stepped in at right back and caught the eye with a break down our right and a deep cross giving Kerr an opportunity but only to see a cloak defence blocking Kerr’s attempt on goal.

The game developed into a long ball spectacle giving defenders a lot of heading practice and half time headaches.

25 minutes we had a shot kicked off the Dorchester Sports goal line. The clearance as usual was a size 12 foot through the ball. We got caught pushing too far up leaving a runner to put the visitors ahead. 0-1

Tails up Dorchester Sports forced us to defend deep and the aerial onslaught continued. 28 they hit the bar followed by several launches sailing over the trees.

Half Time 0-1

Dorchester Sports hit the ground running. A continued direct approach had us defending from the whistle. We gradually bounced back with Kerr going close and McKinlay volleying just wide.

On 21 we grabbed a corner. The inswinger was won by Dorchester Sports, another NASA launch did the usual, catching us too far upfield and leaving space for a runner. 0-2.

24 we won another corner that again was cleared upfield. This time Joyce cut across to win the tackle and a pass down the right set up a good chance but only for the keeper to show good hands.

Pressure 5 minutes later gave Dorchester Sports an opportunity for a clear shoot on goal from the corer of the box 0-3.

Bartlett Knott and Mayo worked through the middle. Knott cut into the box and a scything tackle was judged a penalty. Up stepped Pope, 1-3…34 gone.

A coupe of other chances popped up but we failed yet again to put the ball in the net.

We lapsed concentration in the last couple of minutes and Dorchester Sports capitalised with goals in the 43rd and 46th minutes. 1-5.

We wish Dorchester Sports good luck in the next round.

Result 1-5
