VERWOOD TOWN FOOTBALL CLUB

DORSET PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY 28TH MARCH 2026
VERWOOD TOWN 0 POOLE BOROUGH 1

A sign of things to come ??? A toss of the coin. Ends selected,…oops… the Ref forgot to bring the ball out !!!!!

A slight delay to the start but both teams then using the ball as a missile. Luckily on Thursday Nigel Watts and Steve Tubbs spent several hours installing an iron dome.

It was a dreadful start. Both ends being in action but forgetting where the goals had been erected.

In the first ten minutes both ends had corners to cope with and typical of the quality finishing, on 7 minutes Borough had a clear run on goal finishing with a shot that hit the corner flag.

Borough had a good ten minutes of camping in our third but could have have been caught on the break and gone behind, had we been able to put the ball past the keeper. The whistle went for half time on a static score board.

Half Time. 0-0

Buggey came on at the restart replacing Tony Agwagha.

A flavour of what might have been a resurgent Verwood occurred with only a couple of minutes gone as Borough were forced to back pedal absorbing an attacking flow as Knott Buggey and Dark caused concern in and around the box.

Sadly, it wasn’t to be a resurrection. Passing went astray giving Borough time to re trench and gain ground.

24 minutes and Dark came off to gatherer splinters giving Agheba an opportunity to dirty his boots.

The game continued end to end with Borough getting better in the last 15 minutes. We gave ground and always second to the ball.

It was inevitable that Borough had to grab a goal and did so with ten minutes left.

Another lax period of cover on the edge of the box and the ball was hammered past Knibbs giving Borough the lead. 0-1.

A frantic last ten had Borough defending well but also against ten men as Kerr saw Red and was allowed to leave the pitch and grab an early bath.

The whistle went on a buoyant Borough and a very disappointed Verwood.

Result. 0-1
