A resurgent Gillingham Town opened well and had us pegged back in the first five minutes. Pope and Bentley coped with an aerial barrage while Middlewick and Norris curbed a couple of flank attacks.
We settled. Craciun and Lane had the GT defence shuttling back and the keeper did well to taker a Barton effort heading for the roof of the net.
Weather conditions didn’t help passing on the deck. So, for a chunk of time the ball was in play, it was a stiff neck for spectators..
17 gone Bentley surged through the middle opening up GT’s defence. His chip found Kerr and a glancing header brought out a great save by the keeper.
On 28 minutes a scramble in the GT box was half cleared. Kerr swivelled to hammer the ball past the keeper 1-0.
The rain by now was driving down causing a few slip ups.
In the last few minutes, we had three corners on the trot but a resilient GT managed to clear each one.

Rain had eased slightly for the re start. NASA launches continued though keeping both defences busy in each third.
11 minutes on the clock Craciun broke through a tight defence and a left foot volley was palmed out by the keeper. A half clearance fell on the edge of the area. Lane blasted a right footer into the roof of the net. 2-0.
We earned more possession with hard effort. GT break’s caused concern but on the day we defended well with Pope and Bentley catching the eye with a solid performance.
28 minutes saw Knott getting dry in the dug out, with Best conversely getting wet.
40 minutes, Lane gave way for Found.
The game spilled into 5 minutes of extra time but the score line remained in our favour.
Result. 2-0.
