Match Report Verwood Town vs Sherborne Town Reserves 18-Oct-25

DORSET PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY 18TH OCTOBER 2025
VERWOOD TOWN 2 SHERBORNE TOWN RESERVES 1

A Sherborne attack within the first minute was snuffed out in the box preventing a past history repeat of us conceding early. Sherborne’s attacking style gave our defenders a lot to cope with, but a good work ethic prevailed and we retaliated well.

Grzybowski went close with a daisy cutter bringing a good stop from the keeper. A minute later Craciun brought another good save from the visiting keeper with a left footer from just inside the area.

The game see sawed, not always pretty but a determined effort from both sides to score. A good watch.

Bentley and Pope provided a good central pairing with Danvers and Savage working the flanks, Fudge and Knott were superb in support.

It took 36 minutes for us to break the tight Sherborne defensive shield. A good move down our left and a deep cross into the box was met by Pope out jumping his marker and putting a solid header past the keeper to open the scoring. 1-0.

A minute left of the first half and a foul gave away a penalty. Up stepped Pope to beat the keeper with shot to the keepers right 2-0.

The whistle blew on a good first half.

Half Time. 2-0

No heads dropped in the Sherborne ranks. All credit to their attitude and we were forced to defend in a similar pattern to the first half’s opening spell.

Bentley won a heading dual in the box and Beck took a good catch in the top corner as Sherborne pressed.

4 minutes only on the clock and another attack was broken up by Pope. A quick counter and Craciun went free but blasted an angled shot over the bar.

The game proceeded with mixed play. Some on the deck and some needing craned necks.

Both ends had action and on 17 minutes a lapse of concentration in our defence let in a shot in close to the post. 2-1.

Both benches had tightened rectums as pace picked up with both teams creating opportunities.

It was a nail biting last ten minutes with keepers doing their jobs to keep further alterations to the score board.

Result. 2-1
