Match Report Portland United Reserves vs Verwood Town 11-Oct-25
DORSET PREMIER LEAGUE
SATURDAY 11TH OCTOBER 2025
PORTLAND UNITED RESERVES 0 VERWOOD TOWN 0
A bright start with Portland engineering the first attack. Bentley did the job of clearing a low cross and setting up an immediate counter forcing a corner. The inswinger was a shade too high and finished up a dead ball.
The game continued end to end with play on the deck and not barrage balloon style.
Both defences were on form. Pope Bentley Danvers and Matthews enjoyed their marking tasks while Fudge Savage and Bartlett put a tremendous shift in in the middle of the park. Up front White Knott and Grzybowski tussled with Portland’s defenders.
17 on the clock and good football from the home side released their left flank. Matthews stepped up pace to block the cross and set up another counter. White and Fudge created space for a Knott shot on goal. The keeper did well to take a catch under the bar.
The half continued to be thrills and spills. Savage was proving a handful for the home side and a couple of shots took varnish off the posts.
5 minutes to go and a scramble in our box finished up with the ref printing to the spot.
Beck came into his own. A superb diving save stopped the ball on the line and a strong hand swept it to safety.
Half Time. 0-0
There was no sitting back in this game. The whistle blew and a minute later Grzybowski rounded his marker to fire an angled shot on goal. The keeper made a great save to keep an ongoing clean sheet.
Good football was clearly being enjoyed by the spectators. The game was fast paced with all players clearly wanting 3 points.
Half way through the half we had a feisty spell with both Physios doing a stint.
Savage made way for Best on 32 minutes following a couple of bruising tackles. 5 minutes later Toth replaced White.
8 minutes left and Knott robbed his opposite number to send Fudge free. A wide ball left found Danvers and his volley looked a winner but the keeper again made a superb save denying us the lead.
Nearing the 90 minutes we had benches on edge as both goal areas were employed.
Because of Injuries the game ran to a 50 minute second half. A rousing last couple of minutes made it one of the best games we have performed in this season.
Result 0-0.
