Match Report New Verwood Town vs Romsey Town 08-Feb-25
VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 8TH FEBRUARY 2025
VERWOOD TOWN 1 ROMSEY TOWN 3
A generous Verwood helped Romsey to three points on a miserable damp and misty afternoon.
9 minutes on thte clock and a static defence watched as space was handed to Romsey. They capitalised with a simple cross and header putting them one ahead.
It stirred activity. Bentley intercepted a cross and sparked a run for Criciun. A good cross but with our typical finish, high and wide.
Both keeper’s were tested and on 20 minutes a Romsey corner found an unmarked player in the six yard box. 0-2.
Marking continued to be to Romsey’s advantage and Dinnivan was busier than his opposite number.
The killer came on 35 minutes. A run into our box, a collision judged to be a foul, 0-3.
Marking continued to be lax until the half time whistle.
Half Time. 0-3
A score line like this at half time can always be viewed to be a fore runner for a bagful.
Not to be.
A slightly more energetic start to the second half produced a much better performance stemming Romsey’s goal attempts but not threatening their lead.
Substitutions …. Whitbread on for Hockey after 17 minutes, Weardon replaced by Dinev and Kerr on for Whitelaw, after 22 minutes.
24 gone we won a free kick 30 yards out. A low cross across the. Box only needed a touch but no one got on the end of it !!
Then a spark. Patmore broke on the right delivering a daisy cutter. A Lordache side foot whipped past the keeper. 1-3.
For some inexplicable reason we dropped off pace and resumed giving away space and suffered pressure as Romsey pushed on. Counters remained unproductive as we squandered possession and could have gone further behind in the last few minutes but for a brilliant diving save by Dinnivan palming the ball away from the bottom corner.
Result 1-3.
