Ash players and committee should be at the counters this morning buying up some lottery tickets. A first class goalkeeping display by their stopper coupled to some Verwood missed opportunities in front of the sticks earned them three points.

We kicked off in slumberland and suffered a goal down with only four minutes gone. It took another ten minutes before we settled down.

Grzybowski and Hockey had shots on target but the keeper’s handling on the night was exceptional and kept the home side ahead.

Our back four had settled and despite strong counters Bignell and Bentley coped well with aerial deliveries leaving Whitelaw and Fletcher keeping a tight reign on the flanks.

Halfway through the half Pope and Miller worked through central space and a Miller effort flew just wide.

Just before the whistle tackles were becoming stronger and resulted in an Ash player getting a second yellow. Ash down to 10 men.

Unlike the last couple of games, we had a more positive start to the second half. Ash defended in numbers and their keeper earned his stripes with several excellent saves.

Criciun made a bow coming on for Grzybowski and as the half progressed Buggey came on for Fletcher, Toth on for Whitelaw. The changes didn’t alter the frustration of attacking flare not rewarded.

The last ten minutes had Ash replicating Custer’s last stand. All credit to them they dug in and kept a clean sheet.

Dinnivan wasn’t over employed in the second half but what he had to handle did so without problems.

Although a disappointing result the team worked hard throughout and look forward to our next game against Ash scheduled for 12th April on Potterne.
