Match Report Amesbury Town vs Verwood Town 25-Jan-25

VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 25TH JANUARY 2025
AMESBURY TOWN 4 VERWOOD TOWN 3

A Patmore brace and a Grzybowski bulls eye wasn’t enough to bring home 3 points. Amesbury managed to punch enough holes in our defence to claim the spoils.

We looked lively from the whistle with Patmore going close in the first couple of minutes. Grzybowski followed suit but again watched his effort a slide past the foot of he post.

Amesbury’s counters were well handled by Beck and our back four but there were signs of laxity as we dropped off marking.

A corner for Amesbury with 22 minutes gone wasn’t covered and a simple goal gave the hosts the lead. 0-1.

2 minutes later Patmore got a reward for persistence sending a daisy cutter past the keeper, 1-1.

The game see sawed with a slightly higher percentage of possession falling to us.

7 minutes to go and another defensive lapse gave Amesbury space to go ahead 1-2.

A god shot from the edge of the box rattled Amesbury’s crossbar but the whistle went with the home team ahead.

Half Time. 1-2.

A couple of minutes gone and Fletcher forced a good save from the keeper. We continued to push forward. Despite a possession advantage we couldn’t put the ball in the net.

10 minutes into the half a penalty was awarded after Patmore had been felled in the box. Typical of our goal bound efforts not finding the back of the net this one sailed high over the bar.

We continued to press but still couldn’t find the net. We had several shots on goal but all going wide.

Then another corner for Amesbury dropped in the box and went unchallenged. 1-3.

Grzybowski pulled one back with 69 gone … 2-3. We pushed on. A third was on the cards with Amesbury defending deep.

10 minutes left and we again left a corridor for Amesbury to grab a fourth. 2-4.

44 gone and Patmore grabbed an opportune third. 3-4.

A grandstand finish but we suffered from lax marking and poor finishing.

Result. 3-4.
