Match Report New Verwood Town vs Totton & Eling 18-Jan-24

VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 18TH JANUARY 2025
VERWOOD TOWN 1 TOTTON & ELING 1

In the first ten minutes the ball could have been mistaken as a drone. Stiff necks were the result.

The quality of football from both teams in the first 20 minutes left a lot to be desired. A slight improvement followed but the game was scrappy and passing continued to be ‘give aways’.

We created several chances but shooting on target was woeful. All forwards followed the trait as the half progressed.

Middle of the park had been unused while the ball orbited. Landing gear employed and Pope alongside Weardon became busy.

Ciriun and Hockey saw efforts whistle past the post and Grzybowksi’s angled shot from 10 yards hit the side netting with the keeper stranded.

Totton & Eling hit back with a period of attacks testing our back four but we held tight.

On the whistle a great run from Grzybowski finished with a deep cross but with a Hockey volley going wide.

Half Time 0-0

Only 50 seconds gone and a high ball into our area was followed in and we watched in awe as the ball slid into the net. 0-1.

Totton & Eling continued in an attacking mode but we countered and gradually gained possession.

Grzybowski caught the eye with several good runs down the left sparked by Brazier and Bentley. Patmore had one shot well taken on the post and Ciriun’s shot whistle inches past the foot of the post. Grzybowski made way for Lordache on 16 minutes as we pushed on.

Totton & Eling relied mainly on counters and in the last quarter had to defend in numbers as we pressed.

On 30 minutes Flyn Weardon made way for Jack Knott

We just couldn’t put the ball past the keeper despite numerous efforts. The referee checked his sun dial and with 20 seconds left prepared for the final whistle.

Another missile launch out of Totton & Eling’s defence was returned ….

15 seconds .. a Lordache glancing header…
12 seconds .. Patmore races onto the ball
10 seconds .. The keeper races out to cut space. Patmore clips the ball over the keeper…
8 seconds .. The ball hits the chalk line eludes a despairing lunge by the full back
5 seconds .. The ball nestles in the back of the net. 1-1

0 The referee whistles up for full time as the ball moves of the centre circle.

Close or what. ???

Overall not a classic to watch but no heads dropped showing a great resilience in the squad.

Result 1-1
