Match Report Verwood Town vs Sherborne Town 19-Oct-24
ISUZO FA VASE - FIRST ROUND PROPER
SATURDAY 19TH OCTOBER 2024
VERWOOD TOWN 0 SHERBORNE TOWN 5
Sherborne’s Nap Hand took them into the next round of the Vase whilst we exited stage left.
Hopes rose that we would produce a winning display when, after a couple of minutes John dispossessed a runner, slid the ball across to Pope and a succession of passes involving Fletcher Richardson and finally Hockey took us to the bye line. A low cross disappeared into dead’s ball. Good movement, disciplined approach after which we lost direction and purpose.
Grzybowski felt Sherborne’s determination for possession being ‘grassed’ in a fierce tackle preventing him breaking into the box.
Pressure yielded a Sherborne corner. A half clearance was punished and a deflected shot whistled past Mitchell to put Sherborne ahead 0-1. 13 minutes gone.
28 gone and we got caught pushing up. A break on their right and a spare runner had space. The result, 0-2.
We faltered badly giving space and slack marking.
37 minutes 0-3. For the next 10 minutes we emulated a herd of Lemmings chasing the ball down. The added two minutes to the half proved fodder …0-4.
Half Time. 0-4
We continued where we left off giving space and time to the visitors. It was inevitable we would go further behind and did so 15 minutes later with a volley inside the box making it 0-5.
We were second best for possession and pegged back into our third.
17. Richardson made way for Whitelaw .. 31 Hockey made way for McGinty… 36 Kerr came off for Ollie Mitchell.
A remarkable change came in the last 15 minutes. We picked up on discipline and flair. Several corners, a few shots, 80% possession, but no goals.
Good luck to Sherborne in their next round.
Result. 0-5.
