Match Report Verwood Town VS Fleetlands 28-Sep-24

VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER 2024
VERWOOD TOWN 0 FLEETLANDS 0

A bright start with Brazier whipping the ball into the box in the first minute only to watch a size twelve wallop it into our third. Bentley won the race to head clear.

Fleetlands pushed on wanting to emulate their result in April of last season winning 6-0. It wasn’t to be.

We looked solid and eager. Ferguson John Fletcher and Danvers made up a strong back four with Danvers and Fletcher adding their overlapping prowess to the game.

A counter from Fleetlands with ten minutes gone allowed a shot from the edge of the box but Mitchell’s safe hands took care of the threat.

Hockey went close following a cross from Danvers and Ferguson headed over the bar from a corner mid way through the half.

A gritty performance gave us slightly more possession than Fleetlands, and had we had some clinical finishing could have gone in ahead at half time.

Half Time. 0-0

Fleetlands team talk at half time triggered a reaction with an attack from the whistle finishing with Ferguson making a sliding tackle on the edge of the box giving away a corner. Kerr headed clear a dangerous inswinger. It was a troubled couple of minutes but capably dealt with.

Brazier and Pope gradually took control of mid field. Good football and accurate passing pegged Fleetlands back in their third. Counters of long ball and a coupe of runners could have swung the game for the visitors but our format was tight and controlled.

In the last minutes of the game we went close with efforts from Whitelaw and Grzybowksi but yet again finishing the fixture without finding the net.

Result. 0-0
