Match Report Totton & Eling vs Verwood Town 23-Aug-24
ISUZO FA VASE 1ST ROUND QUALIFYING
FRIDAY 23RD AUGUST 2024
TOTTON & ELING 1 VERWOOD TOWN 2
We performed our usual friendly gesture in giving away a goal in the first five minutes!!.
Totton & Eling thought there was a bag full to be had and pushed on. Mitchell and his backing group of Danvers Fletcher Jones and Bignell were in harmony and settled down to block a series of attacks. We grew into the game and with ten minutes gone went close to equalising sparked by Pope and Kay linking up to free Hockey for a run on goal. The side netting kicked up being the recipient of a low shot from just inside the box.
Buggey and Grzybowski had shots saved as we pushed on. Totton defended in numbers. Danvers and Fletcher overlapped giving Hockey and White opportunities but couldn't find the net until with 30 minutes on the clock Hockey delivered an unstoppable volley changing the score board. 1-1.
In the closing stages of the half Totton & Eling made ground bringing a couple of good saves from Mitchell. Bignell and Jones did well to keep their opposite numbers under wrap.
Half Time 1-1
Possession at the start of the second half was even. Both defences were busy. Hockey went close, firing an effort past the keeper but wide.
Richardson was in the mix earning a few well-chosen words from the ref and with 20 minutes gone was on hand to hammer the ball past the keeper to put us ahead. 2-1.
Totton & Eling went for broke and almost got one back save for the crossbar. The game opened up though, and we enjoyed a bit of space to counter.
Pope won a heading dual in the box from a corner but shaved the bar. Hockey almost had a brace with five minutes left but for a save by the keeper.
The whistle went on a well deserved win.
Result 2-1
