Match Report Verwood Town VS Alresford Town 10-Aug-24

VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 10TH AUGUST 2024
VERWOOD TOWN 0 ALRESFORD TOWN 3

Our first home league game of the season finished with a score flattering Alresford but decisive for them and worth 3 points.

It wasn’t one of the better games for spectators. Both teams spluttered in the early stages but Alresford settled a bit quicker and enjoyed a higher percentage of possession.

Defensively we coped well with a back line of Kerr Danvers White and Fletcher, backed up by a very much in form Mitchell.

We should have gone ahead in the first couple of minutes. Alresford keeper fluffed a a clearance following a Whitelaw effort. Brazier intercepted the clearance and gave Hockey an opportunity to try a shot. The keeper did well to save low to his right.

Scare for Alresford over, they settled and pushed on.

7 minutes on the clock and they had the ball in the net but a flag denied them going ahead.

Alresford pushed us back. Pressure applied was soaked up but clearances fell to Alresford’s midfield. Whitelaw emulated the Lone Ranger up front and was closely shadowed reducing his impact on the game.

Half time came with a blank score sheet.

Half Time. 0-0

Alresford’s half time adrenalin intake was evident from the whistle. Both Kerr and Danvers were tested immediately from the kick off. Battles won we reacted with a sign of recovery. Kay and Brazier linked up well and with both Kerr and Danvers enjoying space on the flanks we produced some good attacking flair.

We couldn’t maintain it and gradually fell back again into a block defensive cover. Alresford took advantage and we gave ground.

Our passing quality deteriorated and Alresford didn’t have to work too hard to have possession.

75 minutes. We lost he ball on the edge of the box. 0-1.

82 minutes another give away…0-2.

88 minutes Christmas come early for the visitors..0-3.

Meanwhile subs Grzybowksi Buggey. & Bentley replaced Whitelaw Brazier and Hockey respectively.

We didn’t play well. The game was scrappy. It’s early days but we need to sharpen up considerably if we are to challenge for a top spot in the table.

Result. 0-3
