Match Report Poole Borough vs Verwood Town 20-Jul-24

PRE-SEASON
SATURDAY 20TH JULY 2024
POOLE BOROUGH 0 VERWOOD TOWN 2

A few away on holiday meant a couple of shuffles but we still had a good squad for this penultimate friendly.

PB were full of running from the start. We coped well and our experience in the middle of Pope and Richardson sparked counters from which Matthews and an overlapping Danvers almost drew first blood.

White joined Ferguson at the back. Kerr and Danvers on the flanks made up a strong back four. Pressure was absorbed and we worked our way to having the bigger percentage of possession.

28 minutes gone and Adam Brazier slipped past his marker and fired us ahead with a low shot beating the keeper just inside the post. 1-0.

Buggey almost had the ball in the net a couple of minutes later as we pushed forward. A good save by the keeper kept us from going further ahead.

Half Time 1-0

Heavy rain greeted the re start. It didn’t curb our enthusiasm on the day, and our performance was much better than the last couple of games.

Richardson and Pope continued to be on top of their opposite numbers and with both Danvers and Matthews on overlapping duties it was inevitable that one of the shots on goal resulting from these attacks would yield.

It fell for Dave Kerr to provide the much needed cushion with a great goal with 15 minutes left to secure a 2-0 finish.

Although a well-deserved result it’s felt we must carry on improving to achieve a top set spot in our division this coming season.

Result 2-0.
