Match Report Verwood Town vs Folland Sports 09-Mar-24
VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 9TH MARCH 2024
VERWOOD TOWN 1 FOLLAND SPORTS 0
Folland’s direct game needed adjusting to. Unfortunately, we followed a similar trait for a chunk of the fixture. Not pretty for spectators.
Having said that if you can win ugly, do so.
First minute Pope won a dropping missile on the edge of the box. Smith hooked back their follow up. Our midfield could have had tea and biscuits watching the ball sail high overhead and up the park.
Mitchell had to be extra alert and made early good decisions to keep Follands’ from going ahead.
We gradually grew into the game and had periods of good football. McHale and Broad worked the flank with 15 gone. Broad’s through ball put Whitelaw in possession on the angle. A good left foot daisy cutter was gathered by the keeper.
Brazier was busy on the left and with an adventurous Danvers sparked a move resulting in a cross from McHale finding Haensel just outside the area. Follands’ packed defence blocked a shot. The rebound was fired over the bar.
The half wasn’t that good to watch and both teams went in at half time with nothing on the board.
Half Time. 0-0
The second half kicked off with a carbon copy of Follands’ direct approach. Mitchell took a catch from about thirty yards and didn’t need to make effort for a second shot a minute later as it sailed over the bar.
9 gone and Danvers linked with Brazier to split Follands’ defence. A good low cross into the box created a scramble. Haensel nipped in to whip the ball past the keeper to put us ahead. 1-0.
Follands’ reacted with added adrenalin. We soaked up what they had and then countered with McHale going close and Whitelaw skimming the post.
We had to dig in. It turned out to be a thrilling finish.
It was a good team performance thoroughly deserving a final result of 1-0.
Result 1-0
