Match Report Alresford Town vs Verwood Town 02-Dec-23
VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 2ND DECEMBER 2023
ALRESFORD TOWN 5 VERWOOD TOWN 0
Alresford sported a nap hand whilst we just had a nap.
The game opened with an even stevens share of events but we soon entered a comatose approach as the first half developed.
Ollie Lowes had a crack at goal with 10 minutes gone but the shot went high and wide. Alresford’s retaliation was instant. A quick counter had Mitchell showing a good pair of hands.
Alresford’s pressure and possession increased. We looked a shadow of our normal selves as we were pushed back giving Alresford territorial advantage.
15 minutes and we went behind. A simple move unchecked allowed a free shot giving Mitchell no chance. 0-1. Worst was to come as we adopted a passive approach allowing another unchallenged run to make it 0-2.
King went close following a brief flurry but overall the Alresford keeper went untroubled.
On the whistle we had a fee klick 35 yards out, awarded after McWilliams had been floored. A good ball in found Pope but his good strong header went down the keeper's throat.
Half Time 0-2
A rousing half time analysis fell on deaf ears. The second half kicked off where the first half finished .Alresford having the lions share of possession .
Passing deteriorated and we had to rely on good goalkeeping to keep the score board from rattling.
Alresford’s attack down the right with 10 minutes gone of the half broke through our defence and a shot hit the bar and rebounded for a tap in. 0-3.
It was mentioned that the Terracotta Army had more movement than we did.
Ferguson and Fiachi came on to get minutes replacing Lowes and Dibben.
We steadied the ship for a while but with ten minutes left, left a gap the width of the M1 for Alresford to nip in and grab a fourth. 0-4
Just before the whistle, a curling long range shot 0-5.!!! Let’s hope it was just one of those days.
Result 0-5.
