Match Report Ash United vs Verwood Town 04-Nov-23
VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2023
ASH UNITED 1 VERWOOD TOWN 2
Despite atrocious weather With great credit to their ground staff, Ash provided a good venue and we were one of only three games on the day to play.
We had a couple of opportunities in the opening spell with King firing wide from close in and McHale creating space for a Simms effort that shaved the post.
Ash kept us busy at the back but Danvers and Broad had exceptional games in full back spots with the central areas well policed by Pope Davies and Smith.
Around half hour had elapsed of a fairly even game when Ash broke through to notch the lead. It was the first gap we had provided but enough for Ash to take advantage of. 0-1.
Richardson and Lowes provided springboards for attack but we were woeful at finishing.
The last ten minutes gave Mitchell a chance to show good form taking care of a a few balls into the box.
Half Time. 0-1
The game had a similar pattern in the second half with both teams attacking but misfiring in front of goal.
We edged possession and benefitted from some good midfield work releasing Lowes. A pin point cross into the box found a marauding Pope and a great header levelled scores. 1-1.
We picked up pace and went close a couple of times with Ash defending in numbers.
5 minutes after the leveller Lowes again proved provider with a slide rule pass allowing King a run on goal. King rounded the last defender and slid the ball past an advancing keeper to give us a 2-1 score line.
McHale almost made it 3 late in the half but the whistle went without any further changes to the score board.
Result. 2-1
