Match Report Folland Sports vs Verwood Town 31-Oct23
VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE CUP - ROUND 2
TUESDAY 31ST OCTOBER 2023
FOLLAND SPORTS 5 VERWOOD TOWN 1
Heavy and persistent rain preceded kick off. Smart money was on a postponement. A wag in the crowd reckoned the officials must have run a bookies. Game On.
We kicked off at the deep end hoping it would become even deeper as the rain belted down for the second half of a Follands occupation.
All credit to our hosts they not only mastered the conditions they mastered us on the night.
15 minutes saw the first goal for Follands with a second following 5 minutes later.
We couldn’t get into our usual pattern of play and gave way to a more aggressive long ball Follands style.
Mitchell was busy but showing good hands under pressure.
Follands pressure paid off handsomely and with 15 minutes left grabbed another brace before half time.
Half Time. 0-4.
The rain continued to increase a flowing tide on the pitch. Where we had struggled to cope with the conditions in the first half, Follands handled the surface ponds and spray very well.
We did rally a bit with Carswell and McWilliams showing quality on the ball and Pope Davis and Smith bottling up the middle.
Broad and Danvers were stifled a bit on the flanks but coped adequately when under pressure.
Towards the end of 90 minutes Follands managed to breach our defensive flood barriers and grabbed a fifth.
McHale slipped the leash in the closing minutes scoring one of his better goals to end the game with Follands claiming victory.
We wish Follands good luck in the next round.
Result. 1-5
