Match Report Verwood Town vs Alresford Town 05-Aug-23
VELOCITY WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 5TH AUGUST 2023
VERWOOD TOWN 0 ALRESFORD TOWN 4
Our first league game of the season is one better forgotten.
Our slow start routine kicked in. A dozy approach and 25 seconds after the referee’s whistle we gave away a penalty. 1 minute 30 seconds and 0-1.
Alresford direct approach was unsettling. Our midfield had stiff necks watching the ball hit channels, saving grass burn. Alresford worked their system well and we looked second best as the game progressed.
Our lethargy on 36 minutes left a runner on goal. A low ball whipped past Rob Gillett. 0-2.
We had a few chances in the remaining time of the half but couldn’t score.
Half Time. 0-2.
Sam Hockey came on for Dave Kerr that mean a shuffle of the formation. It didn’t do any good as we continued to play well below our normal standard.
10 minutes gone and a dose of adrenaline seemed to percolate. Storey sparked a move from the mid field. Bennett and Broad swapped passes and Bennetts ball to Shepherd gave a half chance. Shepherds shot although on target was blocked and cleared.
We deserved a goal with attempts from Hockey McWilliams and Shepherd. Not to be. We were woeful in finishing. It gave Alresford a lift to be under attack frequently but not giving way to a score board change.
Halfway through the half Alresford managed to break into the area and did what we had been trying to do for a while,..score. 1-3.
10 minutes later a lapse in concentration. 0-4.
Although we had a slight advantage in possession the second half we couldn’t convert chances so finished handing 3 points to Alresford.
Result 0-4
