Match Report Verwood Town vs Totton & Eling 14-Mar-23
WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
TUESDAY 14TH MARCH 2023
VERWOOD TOWN 0 TOTTON & ELING 1
After the disappointment of last week end’s result against Petersfield Town and our previous defeat at the hands of T&E we needed to produce a much better performance in this fixture.
The opening spell was a bit frantic with Carswell and Burpitt testing T&E’s back four and then Broad and Warburton resisting a T&E counter.
Six minutes gone and a blow came in the form of a penalty award for T&E after Phillips had made a save at feet and for some inexplicable reason judged to have committed an offence. 0-1.
T&E leaned on their good fortune and pressed. Warburton made a good tackle in the box and Cam Smith did well to resist an elbow challenge to clear on the edge of the area.
The game continued end to end. Good for spectators but not for management.
Joe Smith was again isolated but gave T&E’s back line major concern with strong running.
The first half was even with both ends seeing activity. We again though lacked that finish.
Half Time 0-1
The chat at half time spurred more adrenalin. Burpitt shot over the bar after 5 minutes had elapsed. Mason followed suit after ten minutes and then a marauding Jack Broad saw his shot kicked off the line with the keeper beaten.
We were well on top but couldn’t get the goal that mattered.
Storey gave way for Farndell half way through the half.
Joe Smith benefitted from a Farndell knock down with 15 minutes left but yet again his shot hit the side netting without testing the keeper.
It was a frustrating finish as we camped in the T&E box. Cam Smith’s volley, Joe Smith’s blaster from close in the last 5 minutes warranted a goal but again we suffered famine.
Result 0-1
