Match Report Petersfield Town vs Verwood Town 25-Feb-23
WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 25TH FEBRUARY 2023
PETERSFIELD TOWN 3 VERWOOD TOWN 1
he malaise of giving away early goals continued. Five minutes old and a lapse in concentration led to a gift for the home side. 0-1.
The next few minutes saw a defensive recovery as we bedded in. Coombes proved equal to a couple of efforts from the edge of the box and Broad blocked a volley as we weathered the storm.
We then turned on some good football. Carswell and Storey shored up the mid field whilst Mason and Burpitt got the better of their markers.
Petersfield’s switch to central attack did nothing as Davis and Kerr dominated the home team’s central runners.
Towards the end of the half Joe Smith went close with an angled a shot and Burpitt fired wide from the edge of the box.
Half Time. 0-1
The game continued where it left off. Both teams had an attacking streak but with defences holding tight.
Carswell had a good shot saved on the post and Coombes did well to hold on to a rising volley as Petersfield broke through.
Cam Smith’s effort on 38 minutes deserved a goal but the keeper did well to palm it away.
40 minutes and Carswell broke the Verwood goal famine with a rasping shot making it 1-1. Could we at least hold on for a point or even better grab a winner. ??
In short .. No.. For some inexplicable reason we lost discipline and gave away two goals in as many minutes to give Petersfield the points and bragging rights.
We meet at Potterne Saturday 11th March for a return fixture. Can we reverse the result ??
Result. 1-3
