Match Report Totton & Eling vs Verwood Town 03-Dec-22
WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 3RD DECEMBER 2022
TOTTON & ELING 2 VERWOOD TOWN 3
A stunning brace by Regan Mason and a typical opportunistic strike by Louis
McWilliams sent us in at half time 3-0 ahead.
The second half proved a nail biter and for the unbiased onlooker it made for
a thrilling game with T & E grabbing back 2 goals before the final whistle.
Slight adjustments to the line up were necessary but the squad was solid and
with a full bench.
15 minutes old and we were worth a cleverly worked goal by Regan Mason as
he hit a low volley past the keeper into the bottom corner. 1-0.
Minutes later a stunning strike again by Regan Mason put us 2-0 ahead.
Good football pushed T&E on the defensive and although Burpitt and Fishlock
had gone close it was Mason who steamed in from the left rounding a last
defender and putting the ball beyond the keepers reach from 20 yards.
We continued on the front foot. Good defensive cover kept T&E at bay and
then with ten minutes left McWilliams poached a third on the near post to
close the first half score line.
Half Time 3-0
T&E’s half time ‘chat’ was full of adrenaline. Our defence was under pressure
from the whistle. Broad and McHale had their hands full containing flank
pressure whilst Kerr and Smith did well holding good central attackers.
Fishlock and Storey battled away in midfield and whilst we broke through a
couple of times a tighter T&E second half defensive shield prevented us
putting the ball past the keeper.
Conversely T&E made good use of what space they were allowed and
notched a couple of goals before the end.
The first 45 minutes saw one of our best performances to date and worthy of
the final result.
Result 3-0.
