Match Report Verwood Town vs Hamworthy United 01-Nov-22
DORSET SENIOR CUP - ROUND 1
TUESDAY 1ST NOVEMBER 2022
VERWOOD TOWN 0 HAMWORTHY UNITED 2
A sleepy start meant Hamworthy’s passage to the next round was on track when a static Verwood allowed a simple attack to go unchecked resulting in a 2 minute lead. 0-1.
It woke us up. 4 min. Mason rounded his marker and whipped a low cross into the box. No one was on the end of it to level the score.
5 min Burpitt collected a Tabor through ball, cut in from the left but steered a shot wide of the post. It was a good retaliation resulting in an end to end game for a long period.
Ham U’s flank raids and crosses produced a few flurries in the area but Sumers and Davis curtailed the main thrust. Mitchell was busy showing good anticipation and safe hands.
16 gone and Tabor followed in on a Joe Smith run and cross. Tabor’s shot was on target but kicked off the line.
We went 0-2 on 23 minutes from a deep ball into the box and allowing space for a low shot to finish up in the bottom corner.
Again we were playing good football and having a good spell in Ham U’s third but the cutting edge was missing. On the whistle Cam Smith and Mason cut through but the final ball was booted clear off the spot by an advancing keeper.
Half Time 0-2
We almost suffered a repeat of the start of the game when we kicked off in comatose fashion. Ham U cut us open and a clear shot on goal was superbly saved by Mitchell.
We countered. Broad hammered a volley that skimmed the bar. Fishlock’s shot from the corner of the area hit the side netting followed by a Carswell shot that clipped the foot of the post.
We were pushed back. A long spell of HU possession followed but defensively we rallied with Sumers and Davis continuing central control.
Tabor gave way for McWilliams on 61 minutes.
63 minutes Farndell came on for Burpitt.
27 minutes of the half and we should have pulled one back when Farndell broke the defenders shackles and a good ball for Carswell split HU on the left. A Carswell dink and Mason fired a low shot taking varnish off the wrong side of the post.
83 minutes of the game on the clock and Storey made his bow coming on for Fishlock.
The game proceeded end to end until the whistle blew on a 0-2 score line.
Result 0-2
