Match Report Verwood Town vs Petersfield Town 02-Apr-22
WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 2ND APRIL 2022
VERWOOD TOWN 1 PETERSFIELD TOWN 1
Petersfield started well and with early purpose. A couple of minutes gone saw a high ball punted into the the area headed clear by Smith and a follow up tidied up by Mason. A ball then slung wide right gave Lewis Freak an early touch. Taking the sting out of Petersfield attack Freak found Carswell on the left in space and a good run and cut back brought Hall into attack. Bradley benefitted from Hall’s defence splitting pass but his low cross was hoofed clear out of the 6 yard box.
Passing accuracy left a lot to be desired. Both sides were charitable in their distribution and unable to alter the score board.
Phillips’ handling was a feature on 10 minutes when a slight lapse in concentration let Petersfield into our area. Sumers blocked a shot and then Phillips made a great save from a rebound volley.
We had a couple of efforts blocked and saved but without sting.
Vining and Carswell worked hard up front and created an opening for Cauldwell down the right. A low ball into the area provided a half chance but that’s all Quarchioni needed to put us in front. 1 – 0.
Half Time. 1-0
We carried the opening spell to Petersfield but fizzled out in front of the sticks, Petersfield’s clearances were well drilled into channels and for a while we had to rely on our back four and Phillips to keep us ahead.
Sumers and Mason were busiest but also proved a solid pairing. Hocton and Freak were excellent in their individual roles.
The game spluttered. Both teams had opportunities but failed to capitalise until the 40th minute when a low ball into the box was volleyed past Phillips to make it 1-1.
The game meandered for the few minutes remaining with both teams having to settle for a point.
Result. 1-1
