Match Report Verwood Town vs Ringwood Town 02-Nov-21

WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
TUESDAY 2ND NOVEMBER 2021
VERWOOD TOWN 1 RINGWOOD TOWN 3

It turned out to be one of our insipid performances. OK first half but terrible in the second half and consequently giving away three points.

Both teams looked to attack from the whistle.

Burt headed clear a long high delivery into our area, Cooper collected and sparked an attack through Vining. A hopeful shot from the edge of the area was well covered and handled by Ringwood’s keeper.

Again, a long ball was knocked on for a runner and a shot hit the bar skipping over into dead ball.

Watkins blocked a run on our right and sent Webber free. A quick cross flew across the box but just too far ahead of Osman for a conversion.

Elsom’s anticipation was invaluable minutes later as a slick move through the middle almost caught us out but a timely tackle in our last line of defence was enough to divert the ball away from danger.

Chilman Davies and Vining worked an opening with ten minutes gone but Vining’s volley went over the angle.

Play was end to end with the higher possession being ours. Browning caught the eye moving play from left to right and Webber made ground to cross deep into the Ringwood’s area. Osman was inches away from connecting.

It was a good half generally for us particularly as we went behind to a penalty in the 32nd minute. 0-1.

We hit back with a Guthrie goal on 41 minutes to close the half 1-1.

Half Time 1-1

What happened at half time to spirit and a desire to win is still up for debate.

It was a repeat of the Laverstock debacle when we waited for things to happen giving the opposition as much time on the ball as they wanted.

Only 8 minutes gone and we moved to walking football. 1-2.

We did try and recover but Ringwood’s attitude on the night was spot on and nothing was given away.

We wilted and on 17 minutes went 1-3 as we left the box open for a simple tap in.

We remained in a languid state and although we created a few opportunities in the closing minutes didn’t have anything in our locker to reduce arrears.

Result 1-3.
