Match Report Laverstock & Ford vs Verwood Town 02-Oct-21
WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 2ND OCTOBER 2021
LAVERSTOCK & FORD 4 VERWOOD TOWN 0
A team selected from an obituary column would have provided more activity than we did on this stormy day at Laverstock.
Writing was on the wall in the first couple of minutes as we stood like the Terracotta Army allowing L&F space and time to slot their first of the game past Taylor. 0-1.
We left gaps wider than the M5 for L&F to enjoy their football.
We didn’t offer a token of resistance.
L&F proceeded to camp in our half. They got to the ball first on all occasions giving us little chance to string an attack together.
Goal number 2 came in 26 minutes after a sustained spell in our box finished with a shot that ricocheted off bodies past Taylor. 0-2
L&F’s determination to win was evidenced by the yellow card. It flourished a few times as they steam rolled over us.
32 minutes we were treated to a display of walking football as L&F strolled through our Stonehenge display and slotted the ball past Taylor. 0-3.
We had a miracle spell on 38 minutes. We managed to get into L&F’s box. 3 shots 3 blocks on the line. A big boot cleared the danger of showing a Verwood goal on the scoreboard.
Half Time 0-3
No doubting our consistency. We went 4 down after 2 minutes.
A 20 yarder flew into the top corner. 0-4.
Our back four thought it was the Alamo. Burt headed clear. Kelly hoofed an effort out of the 6 yard box. Danvers blocked a cross. Watkins stopped a volley on goal with his midrift.
The game was simple now. L&F trying to score a hatful, we trying to stop them. It was our only success.
Result 0-4.
