Match Report Verwood Town vs Ash United 18-Sep-21
WESSEX LEAGUE DIVISION ONE
SATURDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2021
VERWOOD TOWN 2 ASH UNITED 1
Several changes to the line up had to be made due to absences but we welcomed back Charlie Gajic and Luke Homer to the line up.
Ash started well and tested Taylor in the opening minutes with a couple of shots from the edge of the box. Safe hands dealt with the flurry.
Webber had slotted in at right back and made an excellent tackle on the edge of the box preventing an angled shot on goal.
Hall and Cooper held the middle well against a good Ash midfield and it was Hall sparking a counter after robbing his opposite number and freeing Hancox on the left. A deep cross was collected by Gajic but his low volley was well taken.
Homer had a run on goal half way through the half but agonized as his angled shot slid past the foot of the post.
Ash pressed forward. Burt stopped a central runner, and Wilson then intercepted a cross field ball that spelled danger as we were pushed back.
41 minutes gone and we went ahead through a Gajic volley.
Half Time 1-0
There weren’t many chances in the first quarter as both teams struggled to create openings.
Ash picked up pace and enjoyed a spell of possession forcing us to defend in numbers.
Resilience kicked in. We hit back and a Danvers Homer link on the left split Ash’s defence. A deep cross looked as if was number 2 but Gajic’s shot hit the foot of the post and out.
44 minutes gone and sustained pressure paid off as Powis was gifted space in the box and a powerful shot made it 2-0.
Ash were out of the blocks quickly and stunned us with a great move making it 2-1.
It was Fergie time to the whistle.
Result 2-1
