Whitchurch chose to kick with their slope and gave Josh Hall an early test with a long ball down the left. Hall closed quickly to snuff out the threat. Whitchurch continued to press. Both Elsom and Kelly were busy containing the central threat whilst Watkins and Hall blocked the flanks.

Whitchurch retaliated immediately and Ben Rodwell went high to collect another meteorite dropping into the box.
We settled to play some good football. Maddocks and Smith were prompters giving some excellent line balls for Zanin and Nicholson to attack Fawley’s back four as we pushed on.
It was a continuing game of long ball clearances into our third giving us neck ache but we coped well. Rodwell was active and showing good hands.
A corner, We didn’t challenge so with 43 minutes gone a Whitchurch head put the ball in the net and we went in at half with time with a level score line.
Half Time 1-1.
The second half was a replica of the first with both teams intent on producing attacking football but a few frustrations started to show as tackles became feisty.
8 minutes old and a scuffle n our box resulted in the ref pointing to the spot. A hotly disputed penalty. But it stood. - 1-2.
17 minutes, Maddocks came off for Danvers and on 19 minutes Zanin made way for Butler. We continued to create chances but couldn’t convert opportunities.
Whitchurch had tails up and pressed forward. We had them reeling on a couple of counters but yet again couldn’t put the ball in the net.
20 gone and a low shot from Vining was kicked off the line.
It was like the Alamo for ten minutes as we tried to score. Solid defending by Whitchurch kept the ball out of the net
Our last effort on 45+5 was a Butler volley straight down the keeper’s throat. A story of the game. So…exit the 2020 FA Vase competition.
