Match Report Verwood Town vs Shaftesbury Town 23-Feb-20

DORSET WOMENS LEAGUE
SUNDAY 25TH FEBRUARY 2020
VERWOOD TOWN 6 SHAFTESBURY TOWN 0

With the recent weather conditions taking an impact on a lot of the games in the league initial thanks goes to Chief and the Cranborne Football Club management for getting the pitch in a playable condition. Thanks again to our main sponsors Altogether Care as we welcome Shaftesbury Ladies for our home game today.

With the wind getting up and causing blustery gusts of some power, Shaftesbury won the coin toss and choose to switch ends to start the 1st half with the wind advantage.

Both teams settled immediately into the game and both had opportunities in and around the boxes. Shaftesbury playing some testing balls through the middle to their very alert Number 6. It took some very astute and resilient defending from the back 4 to keep them out. Lottie Kimber particularly putting in a shift at CB having to dealing with the opposition's main attacking threat.

Verwood settling well and were playing out from the back well. Managing to also use the wings to their advantage and a decent passage of play asked questions of the away team.

It wasn't long into the game when the ball fell for Cleo who finished well to make it 1-0 to the home team.

The early goal allowed Verwood to relax however, were hungry for more goals. Shots were being fired at the opposition in rapid succession but a lot of opportunities were passed up when other easier options were available than long speculative efforts. The ladies kept going and the high pressing game paid off.

The successful battle in midfield saw Verwood working well out of possession and were able to quickly transition into numerous attacks. These came into fruition when some clinical passing fed through to the strikers and allowed for Cleo to increase the home tally to 3 before the half time.

HT 3 - 0

Into the 2nd half, the wind, typically, died taking away any potential advantage to the home side.

Both teams started the 2nd half well, playing some nice in possession passing, letting the ball work. Verwood again winning a lot of the turnovers in midfield.

Goal 4 scored by Cleo from a long whipped cross in from Zoe.

Goal 5 from Paige after the ball came loose from the GK and bounced about in the box and final goal clinically put away from Daisy to finish the game off 6 - 0 to VTLFC.

Shaftesbury Ladies battled on to the end and credit goes to their GK who put in a real solid performance.

Looking forward to our trip up to Shafts on the 15th March.

Full-Time 6 - 0
