Match Report Verwood Town vs Wool and Winfrith 08-Dec-19
DORSET WOMENS LEAGUE
SUNDAY 8TH DECEMBER 2019
VERWOOD TOWN 3 WOOL AND WINFRITH 2
A very wet and windy start saw the game to be delayed to allow the ref to assess the pitch. Luckily it was a freak downpour and heavy shower which added to the drama today and not a cancellation.
Both teams keen on playing the game got it underway. Verwood striking first with a pressing period of forward play granted the games first corner to the home team.
An inswinging delivery from the left saw the ball ricochet into the net for the first goal. Credit Zoe for the goal.
Wool were then on the press and found some options from great crosses from the right wing. Wool pressure got them back in the game with a strike pulling the score level.
Verwood with the fire in their bellies pressed with presence and the ball passed neatly down the left wing.
Tara and Zoe working together nicely and then whipping a ball into the area falling to Cleo who wrapped her foot around to fire the ball past the Wool keeper to make it 2-1.
Half Time 2-1
Wool came out guns blazing and following a free kick Wool switched on quickly and played simple ball over the top catching Verwood off guard and was casually slotted home with a neat calm finish. 2-2 game on.
A flurry of midfield play saw the ball break free and an excellent through ball slotted into a diagonal run and a thunderbolt left boot from Cleo over the Wool keeper into the far right
got the last 20 minutes all wizzed and jizzed up.
Full Time 3-2
A credit to to both teams for battling hard and never giving up in the true spirit of grassroots passion, pride and mud.
Verwood taking all 3 points and earning them after a some hard performances and defeats have their rewards paid for keeping together as a team through the tough times.
