Match Report Verwood Town vs Bridport 03-Dec-19
DORSET SENIOR CUP QUARTER FINAL
TUESDAY 3RD DECEMBER 2019
VERWOOD TOWN 4 BRIDPORT 2
It took a few minutes for us to settle during which we saw a cross cum shot go inches wide of the post. A couple of Bridport fllnk balls were catered for by Danvers and Nicolson but we looked steady in the middle of the park with Lambert and Kelly holding central spot.
A high central ball dropping in our box was monitored by Lambert and an awesome leap won him the header. We had seen a half inch of daylight below Lambert’s boots and the grass !!
We settled quickly. Gajic rounded a defender and scooped a shot destined for the bottom corner. The keeper was a clone of Plastic Man. Finger tips 2 foot long tipped the ball round the post.
A cleared defenders ball found a runner down their left. A cross on the far post dipped over the advancing Hind and Bridport went ahead 0-1.
Davies wrong footed his marker on 19 and cutting inside the box passed along the edge of the box. Butler sniffed it out and delicately chipped the keeper 1-1.
Vint and Nicolson turned providers three minutes later with Nicolson rounding off the move with a low cross inch perfect for Butler to convert. 2-1.
Davies and Vint split the Bridport right flank and with two minutes left of the half Butler converted another classic cross to put us ahead at half time 3-1. A great hat trick.
Half time 3-1
Briport came out for the second half with a great determination and we had to match pace and desire. We did it.
Dyer robbed a runner just outside our box. A quick look and a slide rule pass found Vint with space. Vint went free, drew the keeper and slipped the ball into the bottom corner 4-1.
Bridport then made three substitutes. It didn’t make any difference. We had the desire on the night and winning second balls that we normally give away.
21- Maddocks came on for Hall. 24- a shot from the edge of our box not closed down made it 4-2.
25 and Owen Nicolson made way for Jack Driscoll.
10 minutes left and Bridport grabbed some adrenalin from somewhere giving us a torrid time as thy swept forward. Kelly Dyer Danvers and new Icon Lambert did well to keep the threat outside the area.
Result 4-2
